I'm a 40 guy, but my wife needs a bigger vehicle. We found a 97 2wd 4runner for what seems like a good deal. What would it take to make it 4wd? Are the knuckles and suspension the same between 2wd and 4wd? What tranny and tcase should I look for? Which straight axles have the right WMS width and diff placement? I'd rather go straight axle with a 3 link than IFS.

Anyway you look at it you've got a lot of work to convert....swapping harness' and ECU's trans

Trans options AFAIK:
3RZ I4 - W59 (manual)

5VZ V6 - R150F (manual)
A340F (auto)

search google for conversions of Tacos & 4runners there are a few threads on the subject out there.

IIRC a Dana 44 drivers side drop out of a Wagoneer is an option.

I have a front Dana 44 from a small Wagoneer, with a drivers side drop, 6 lug that I was going to use for a straight axle swap- changed plans. If you do pursue this- PM me in regards to the axle.
