4x4 clunk/noise 02 Tacoma

I am buying a 02 Tacoma DC but notied the 4x4 has a loud "clunk" as it comes out of lock. What I mean is I put the truck (push button 4x4 and auto hubs) in 4x4, drive forward 10 feet when I push the button again to disengage the 4x4 and drive forward or back, there is a loud "clunk" and a bump feeling. It seems worse when turning the wheels slightly. I asked the service guy, and was told "It's normal, all Tacomas do it" My 91 Hilux (manuel hubs), and 98 4runner never have done this. Help? is this normal? Jay

cant be good i would not think,ive never had that happen,did you check the ujoints and all pinions and such

Sadly, I did not find it till after I started paperwork. I made the choice not to take it to my mechanic since I drove it for a while and everything felt great. I was still searching for info when I found stuff about water leaks. I asked to take the truck to a car wash to look for leaks, when I tested the 4x4... then this. I have not signed anything yet... can I check this stuff or do I need to take it to a mechanic? thx Jay

this is not uncommon on auto locking hubs and as long as it isnt a massive clunk then it isnt anything to be concerned about

The tundras have a similar system IIRC, and they have a pretty substantial clunk when engaging and disengaging 4wd....
