I've bought a few things online and never noticed that 4wheelparts has retail stores, with the closest to me being Raleigh.
Anyone know if its worth checking out? Do they actually stock much in the store, shocks, rims, tires etc?

Dave

they have a little bit there. mostly stuff that fits on a shelf , pretty nice guys. give them a call as ask what their inventory is on a specfic item. they have a pretty good sized shop and install about anything they sale from what i could see.

Seem friendly but cater to the contractor crowd with large trucks it seems....always what it looks like from the road. That being said I purchased a tire from them and besides price I was happy, however I will always try and support the small local shops over big box retail like these type of places.

I've bought a few things there but wouldn't recommend them, and it sure as hell ain't worth the drive from VA Beach/Hampton Roads.

In my experience w/ the Raleigh store, you'da thunk I drove up in a pink VW New Beetle - they aren't Toyota fans (come to think of it, their Cleveland, OH store was the same). As Greg alluded to, however, if you roll up in a Rubicon, or a Powerstroke or Hemi Ram, they'll fawn over you to sell you their formulaic lift-kits and black/chrome wheels with 38x14.50 Mega Extreme Rockstar Mudder Rockcrawling tires. And they'll finance it too.

Thanks. I have relatives around Raleigh, Clayton, and Cary and get down there, so I wouldnt be making a special trip. But it kinda felt like it might be a toy store, you know?

Oh well, theres no Santa, I guess.

I went to the Grand Opening with my rig back in 07??? The guys there seemed toyota centric to me talk for a while with the Manager about a few options for gears and lockers, there were numerous toyotas on display there as well as Eskimos rig...(wonder what he is doing now) But I haven't been back since then because I have one right down the road, so it may have changed.

The one in Charlotte is the same way, hell kyle worked there and everybody else is very helpful.

I do agree they cater to the super duty crowd but only because that is where the $$$ is and most likely makes up 60 percent of their business with another 25 to jeeps. Can't really blame them for that just smart business.

They can get tons of parts for cruisers just most likely don't have them in stock.

Gears, lights, lockers, (anything ARB, soon TJM also) armor, wheels, tires, exhaust anything can be ordered and picked up so if you want something and know you will be in the area it is free shipping to any of their stores so it saves a ton.

Yeah, shipping would be a big deal on tires or something heavy. I get no tax since they dont have a store in VA. At least the last time I ordered.

Most of the independent shops here seem to cater to the super duty show trucks too. Seems like anyone with a yard cutting businees has to have a 60K big rig to haul a lawn mower around.
I'm in the wrong business.

My 2 cents...

Agree with what most said above, my only experience is with the Raleigh store.

Yet, they are not so friendly if you order the parts on-line and "shipped to your local store". Statements like "we don't earn anything off these sales" and "since you didn't buy it here, we can't help you", had me scratching my head.

I explained that I called them first, to see if it was in stock, it wasn't. So, I ordered on-line, saving on shipping since it was free to have it shipped to the store. The manager said that they don't make anything and its a pain for them to have to do this. It was all over a set of tires that were on special, they wanted to add a charge on top of installation. It was all resolved and I walked away happy.

I get the feeling that it may be similar to Discount Tire and the on-line Discount Tire, two different entities where sometimes the on-line version steps on the toes of the local "brick and mortor" retail outlet. They definitely prefer you to order through them instead of the website for some reason.

They did spend time with me and allowed me to play on the RTI ramp to check for rubbing and scored the FJC front and back up the ramp.

So, yes, call first unless you are just window shopping...

I've used them, their prices are decent and they have coupons offered every now and then if you register on their site.

When the wife lived in Raleigh, I'd either call them up or order from their site and have it delivered to their store.

I actually got a great deal on an ARB bumper with one of their website coupons, and saved a truckload on shipping pickinh it up direct at the store:meh:

It is definitely not worth the drive to check out the Raleigh store. It is mainly bolt on accessories and Jeep parts they keep in stock. From what I've seen, they cater to the Jeep Wrangler crowd that is so popular. I haven't bought much from them, but they have matched prices of other vendors for me in the past. And the manager doesn't live far from me, so I can get stuff delivered for free :)

A few years ago I signed up online to their email list and they sent me a 20% off coupon on any item. I used it to get my ARB bullbar and free shipping to their Charlotte store. Saved myself a ton. Not sure if they still do that with new email subscribers but worth a try.

Edit: Seems like Alex had a similar experience.

They quoted me $600 to install two rear springs and a diff drop on my 100. East Coast gear supply did it for $170.

I ride by there everyday to and from work and always the same trucks, F150s and Jeeps. These folks are spending major coin on mods.

Ahh, I'm going with the caprice classic look on 22's
oh wait no, I'm going with the tuned Civic and neon,
no maybe the lowrider pickup with the bed that lifts up to the side,
or maybe the 5.0 'Stang with the Oakley sticker across the back
Or should I go with the classic Chevy Truck with the Calvin sticker peeing on the Ford symbol..

Hmmm so many trends to decide from....

You guys ever need anything there, talk to The Store Mgr. Greg Slade, and tell him you are a friend of mine. I promise he will help you out. I helped him get that job!
