I just finished converting an 88 fj62 from A440 auto, to an H55f 5 speed manual trans. I got the backup lights all figured out and working, but am having some issues with the 4wd indication. When I hooked up the indication switch in the new fully manual transfer case, the light stayed on continuously. I then pulled the switch out of the tcase, and operated it by hand. When you push the switch in, the light comes on. When the switch is released the light goes out. i put the switch back in the tcase, with 2 washers instead of one. Now the 4wd light remains on when in 2WD, and goes off in 4WD.
Does anyone know if there is a different switch that is needed? Is there a switch that connects the circuit when it is not depressed, and then disconnects when the switch is depressed. Is there something different I need to do to the wiring, since the vehicles original configuration had the 4WD auto solenoids, and vacuum system? I have searched for info on this, and have not been able to find any info. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

It looks like the FJ62 triggered the 4wd light bulb differently than the 60. Not a big deal. What you need is a relay. Any relay will do. Then you can swap functions back to where you want it.

Thanks! I didn’t think about doing that. Awesome!!!! I really appreciate the advice! I’ll install one soon.
