Hi all I have bought a 77 series landcruiser (lwb jap import) and was wondering if there are any lights that come on the dash when engaging 4wd and any light that indicates low range? I have the standard pull back transfer leaver with H-N-L any help is appreciated

There should be a green light saying '4WD' coming on when you engage the lever to H (which is 4WD high). It should be located in the right lower corner of the dash.
It stays on in 4 Low (lever position L), too.
That's how it is in my BJ73.

Should I be driving around with it in neutral?

Do you have electric hub locks? If so, there will be a Hub Lock and and H4 button to the right of the steering wheel. Pressing the Hub Lock button should illuminate a green indicator light in the dash, and then either pressing the H4 button (for 4wd high range) or pulling the transfer lever back from the H to L position should illuminate another green indicator light. There is no separate light to differentiate between high and low range, just whether 4wd is engaged or not.

Cheers, no i’ve got manual locking hubs and no lights leads me to believe my 4wd isn’t engaging. I’ll go into a paddock today and drop the clutch and assess the skid marks haha

Äh, no. There will be no drive in neutral at all. Neutral is for having a non engaging resting position between high and low, or for operating the PTO (e.g. winch) while being stationary.

This should answer all your questions on operation:

The light really is just an indicator. It not coming on is rather not indicating your 4WD is not engaging but rather indicating the light is toast.
Suspect is a connector on the top right of the T case.
Good luck!
