Guys,

I am getting my fourth mod done on Thursday. New tires, cooper discover STTs 285/75 R 16.

First mod - Change holder in center console.
Second Mod - Husky liners
Third Mod - Sirius S50
Fourth Mod - Tires

I am getting a slow start on modding this 100.

Finally, an almost real MOD.

Those are great looking tires. I am thinking about a set as well. Need to find a local dealer.

Keep us posted with your feedback and experience!!

Looks agressive enough.
Drivability on-road would be interresting though.
If you coud report back on noise level, stability/handling in different situations (curves, breaking, wet, dry), it would be greatly appreciated.

Those tires come in a 325/80-16 (37x12.5-16)!

Get those! :D

You going white letters in... I hope...

I have them on my Duramax. After driving them for approx 5k I have found them to be squirrely on the highway. Snow traction is quite nice, but it is 4x4 with a locking rear diff. I will say that I won't be buying another set. No 100 experience with them so maybe it's the weight I tow (even though they are 'E'). They definitely look kick a$$ though so I still love the look!

White letters out-all the way yee haw.

No, the white letters will be going on the inside.

How much are the STT's going to cost you?

I am planning on putting a set on mine later this year, and am curious how much I need to save for these STT's.

285/75 R 16s - a set of 4 - $723 installed.

I've had a set on my 98 since January. I've made a trip to SoCal (from SLC), we've had lots of snow this winter, and a trip to Moab. So I think the test has concluded for me. I really like them.

Pavement- had them to 105 mph on backhighways on the way to/from SoCal. Tracked true and straight. Never felt like control was compromised. A little louder than the Michelins (of course), but not bad IMO. Seem to be wearing fine/even. Time will tell on how fast. I did 3 sets of MTRs on my 80 before I rolled it. MTRs wore too fast for me, but were great in Moab.

Snow- Siping is better than MTRs and it shows in the snow. Never a problem this winter. Busting through 2 feet above Moab they did well also.

Rocks- (Moab slickrock anyway) held well and grabbed nicely. Didn't do anything too difficult since it's unlifted at the moment.

Firm Sand- Took a back way out of Moab on sandy roads. High speed driving (baja style) and they felt great, traction was good.

Mud- came upon some mud for several hundred yards at a time, again good traction at 45-50 mph.

That's my experience/report, YMMV.

Damn, 105 on the road, 50 in the mud...

What up Ivan? :D

Met Ivan at SEMA and the FJ Party this year. He's been a hero of mine since I was a kid. Goal to run the 500 or 1000 before I die.

Oh, and yeah, sometimes I try a little too hard.

Can't wait to hear the review. I ordered a set of these for my Tacoma but the S/T's came instead and I accepted them. I am enjoying them so far but will probably go with the STT's next time just to see how they work for me. Seems they would be a good match for my Tacoma to help it bite a little harder.

Take lots of pics for us!!! They are gonna look GREAT on the 100.

Damn, $723? I don't mean to piss on your campfire, but isn't Cooper supposed to be a "less expensive" brand? My NTG's were less than $600 installed.

I'm currently a big fan of the NTG's too, but after really looking at the STT's, they are difficult to compare.

Meaning, $ vs. $ isn't an equal comparison.

There was mention on the 100scool list of some Cooper ST's being recalled and were replaced by the STT's. However, they were all Aussie guys. There were also a few STT owners complaining their tires were "chipping" at even low mileage. Their driving conditions are quite a bit different though.

Have heard a little about the chipping that hoser mentioned, I looked at them but the compound seemed too hard for me, I would rather wear out more tyres and replace them more often and have better grip on the black top when wet (since one has to travel a long way to get off it), have heard they don't do as well as the MT/R's in that regard which seem a lot softer but wear rapidly.

In Australia Cooper have released the ST-C http://www.coopertyres.com.au/tyres/stc.htm which is supposedly cut and chip resistant.
I'm not sure if you have them in the USA, but i can't see why not.

As far as driving conditions go, we're pretty similar to a lot of places - especially city slickers who just use their LC100s to pick up the kids from school and do the weekly shopping. The Aussies who live waaaay out of the cities have the harsher conditions. The mall cruisers would have to drive hundreds or thousands of kms on sealed roads before they get to go offroad to the more popular "once a year" or "once in a lifetime" trip (slight generalisation) like Cape York, Simpson Desert, Birdsville Track etc etc.

For me being in outer east suburban Melbourne, i can be offroad on mountain logging tracks (on either rocky terrain, mud, dust or all 3 depending on where i go) in less than an hour, the sandy beach tracks in 2 or 3 hours and the Little Desert in around 5 hours.

cheers
peter

Just an add on to moooooooo's post, unfortunately STC coopers only come out in the following sizes LT235/85R16, LT245/75R16 & LT265/75R16 and I don't recall the 265s being available in OZ when I was looking some time ago.

Thanks for the heads up; I'll keep an eye on that.
