Im saving up for some new tires but wanted to start figuring what im going to get..... its a 99 limited with 2.5" lift, i want BIG but i also want as much POWER as possible. what's everyone's experience with getting a good balance and brands???

Rachel,

from what i've seen with the newer runners, seems like the Mt/r's work the best(i.e: Scott Yoders, Kerry Harts....). They are a good all around tire. I'm on my second set, the first I was able to get 40k out of them(rotated every 2k miles and cross rotate every 4k. BFG all terrains/mud terrains are good to, ben around for ever.

You have a Diesel Hilux, too. :D

My next Tyres will be Hankook RT01, 235/85 R16 on ROH Trak II, Silver 16x8 -13mm Offset

is it better to get ones that will do fine for both on and off road or is it better to have 2 sets of tires or wut?

I like my MTR's -but rotate them often. They are heavy too so you might not like that on the street, dunno.

The Nitto Terragrapplers or BFG KO AT's or REVOs all look good. I would get one set - I have two (stock street and MTR's) and it's a pita to change up so I only do it if it's going to be for a extended time

wut, wuuut

ya i dont wanna be changin them back n forth all the time..... well i have plenty of time to make my decision though at the absolute latest by CM '06 lol....

oh but if ty could front that $200, that would def speed up the process! .....oh wait .......NO!

Rachel,

I've run the following:

Bridgestone AT. I've run this tire since 1984, and will continue to run them as my dd tire. They last a long time, but they are not that agressive off-road. MT/R and MT/KM work much better in the snow and on rock, but they don't last as long, and are noisy on pavement.

Goodyear MT/R. I had these on my 85 xcab. Gawd I loved that tire. Great traction, they stayed in balance longer than the BFG. They do wear faster but they worked great in the snow and rock.

BFG MT/KM. Currently this is my play tire on the 4Runner. They are ok, worked very well in the snow this winter, and great on the rocks in Moab. They don't stay balanced worth a squat. I still prefer the MT/R.

Bridgestone MT. This tire came on my xcab when I bought it. I didn't like them. Noisy, lousy in the snow, and not much better on rock. The rubber was way too hard. I will never run them again.

I run the Bridgestone AT on a daily basis, and on camping trips where I won't need the traction. But when I want to play, the MT/KM's go on. Decide what you want the truck to do and pick the tire accordingly. I ran the AT's in Moab and really can't say it hurt me much. But, I didn't know any better.

Ask yourself this before you buy any tire: Where will the tire see a majority of it's use? Street or trail? If it's street, get one biased toward that but with concessions for trail. If it's trail, then get one biased towards that and with concessions for street.

Or... If it's all about the Bling, forget the above. :D

A *LOT* of people on Yotatech are running Bridgestone Dueller REVOS. The consensus is that they are great on and off road. I've never wheeled mine (only had them for 700 miles, and on a DD), but they are great on-road. I've been a die-hard BFG AT fan all my life, but these REVOS are great.

Other tires I've had for DD/Trail use have been BFG MT's, Swamper SSR's, MTR's for a week, and a BFG knock-off the name of which escapes me right now. I like the SSR's on my 4Runner, but others hate them (sidewalls aren't the greatest). The MTR's were good, but cupped pretty badly (on the 4runner when I bought it). BFG MT's are a great tire and with the new generation, seem even better. BFG AT's are great tires, especially when siped, on everything but wet/muddy terrain.

For 2.5" lift, I think you can go 275/70... Maybe even a 275/75... But don't quote me on that - do a search on YotaTech for size and tire discussions - there have been hundreds. :D

I'm not a huge fan of two sets of tires, to be honest, unless you are going to have two sets of wheels. And if you are going to do that, might just as well have two trucks... ;) ;)

i like the look of the cooper discoveries ST's I think, look very agressive take a look and they are a cheap good tire

i havnt heard much bout those...i checked out the site though....do you know about how long they'll last from personal experience in comparison?? i would rather spend a hundred more on tires that'll last 4 yrs then keep replacing cheap tires often....

You can fit 265 75r16's (metric 32's) without rubbing and without losing all your power and needing gears. 285's require more clearance and you will want gears.

I like my Yokohama Geolander ATII's and the price is right. The Nitto Terra Grappler's are also nice tires and good price. Both available at Discount Tire/America's Tire.

No reason to go with BFG's which cost so much more and are no better.

No reason to run MTR's or MT's unless you are going to wheel the snot out of the truck.
