Couple of basic questions on 4runners and Double Cab Tacos.

Which years/models came with the factory e-locker and how easy are they to find?

What lift options are there and how much lift is needed to run 33s?

I am thinking late 90s- to early 2000s in the questions above.

Tacoma - 2001 was the first year the double cabs were introduced in the US. They can be had with rear lockers, but only came with auto transmissions.

4Runner - 96-00 were the years that rear lockers became available. 01-02 4Runners got a center diff lock. The 96-00 could be had in either manual or auto transmissions.

You will need to do about a 3" lift to clear 33's. Might still have to do a bit of trimming. There are a ton of lifts available for both the Tacoma and 4Runner. OME, Toytec, Tundra coils, LC coils, etc. etc.

I'd suggest going to yotatech (for 4Runners) and ttora (for Tacoma) and read up on some of the lift options.

Not sure how common rear elockers are in Utah but I don't think they were the norm as an option in Canada.

The 3.4 L engine seems the most common as well.... I sure like my 2.7 litre..I assume it gets a bit better mileage around town and at slower driving speeds and the 4 cylinder has a timing chain so no timing belt to change as the 3.4 litre engine requires.

I have 32 inch tires under mine without a lift. skinny ones though!

I believe the double cab Tacomas showed up in 1999 and were present through 2004.

The TRD off road packaged double cab Tacomas come with an e-locker. The TRD package came on 2x4 and 4x4 models. The 2x4s have the word prerunner under the word Tacoma on the tail gate.

Some people have put the TRD stickers on nonTRD trucks, so look on the left hand side under the instrument cluster, there is a e-locker button.

I don't know much about 4runners.

I know you ment '01 was the first year in the states, everywhere else has had them for quite a while. BTW, Welcome to Mud Wally.

As far as ease of finding a 4rnr or Tacoma with the e-locker, it will be easier to find the Tacoma with one. Just look out for the sticker'd ones sans e-locker. Button to left of steering wheel reads;

RR
DIFF
LOCK
