I have a fj40 disc brake axle in pieces and was going to rebuild my drum brake axle with the disc brake parts. But the parts are a bit rusty and might need some work. Any way I was thinking about putting some 4runner calipers on there instead of the rusty landcruiser ones I have.

Is 1992 the only year I can use? Or is it a few years and that just happens to be in the middle? I do know I need the big 4 pot calipers from a v6 4runner.

Any other issues besides the slight grinding I'll need to do to avoid a little wheel rub?

All disk minitruck/4Runner caliper will fit. what's different are the piston sizes.
The 92-93 4Runner caliprs have the biggest pistons I have found.

Other issues: with the larger calipers there is often concern that the mastercylinder you use must be able to "push" enough fluid to satisfy the larger volume of these calipers. From what I have read the consensus is to use the matching m-cycl.

I ended up using a 93 V6 truck caliper by several people's recomendation as it had larger pistons than the 86-88 but smaller pistons and a smaller body that didn't require grinding to fit as did the V6 4Runner calipers. Stock m-cycl works fine.

I just dropped a pair of 92 Runner calipers on my rig....haven't driven yet, but pedal pressure and feel seems great. Pads do not match the Cruiser stuff, and get a hardware kit too, since the pins are longer than the FJ40.

No grinding required with 1.5" spacers and 17" rims tho
