this would not be a swap option for anything other than an fj40.
The fj40 weighs about as much as an AWD evo or eclipse or mirage.
The 4g63 comes in many different vehicles as well as RWD and FWD and even AWD so motor mount brackets are avaliable from the dealer making it easy to put in a RWD vechicle
The little turbo 2.0 will easily handle highway rpms and cruise smoothly compared to a SBC or F/2F
Even in stock form they can put out impressive hp number of over 400hp.
With a properly sized turbo/exhaust you can make good hp and torque number at rpms below 2000 rpms.
This engine is known for MPG's in the 20mpg range.
This engine was found in mighty max trucks...not too much lighter than the soft top fj40's.
The 4.11 gears of pre 1980 fj40's should allow plenty rpm range for these to make good power at traffic lights and if tuned properly will probably make hp/torque numbers as good as if not better than many stock small block v8's so off roading will not be sacrificed. Any attempts to tow would be sacrificed.
The price to get an adapter to match this engine to a chevy transmission is about 350 bucks...not a bad price.
Because this engine came in so many vehicles from the talon to the lancer to the eclipse it can be found in many junk yards.
Large amout of aftermarket support and ability to find/source used parts from other forums.
Possibility for a high reving 4 banger engine that gets pretty good MPG's and dosesn't mind our 1:1 final drive even at 65 for 8 hours?
