45lv door handles

I am missing both rear inside door handles. I have 2 options: 1)I found a guy who will try to make a duplicate pair from scratch (diversified damascening, BTW what is damascening?) or 2) I've located an original pair but the guy is asking $100.00 for the pair.
Any thoughts? I have no Idea how much a set is worth. What would seem like a reasonable price?

I'd see if someone here can find you a set? But if you found a pair, and they're in good shape, I don' t think $100 is out of line.. Heck I'd pay that and more for certain Unobtanium parts..

I've got the same problem, missing some.

I haven't looked at it to much or thought about it. I was thinking of sandcasting the handles and then pouring them myself. Not sure if I could make them out of steel, I think I might have to use aluminum because of the melting point.

I would still have to have them chromed, but there is a place pretty close to me in Winnipeg that chromes pretty cheap.

Dang Matt, what can't you make? I picture a blast furnace out in your garage, pouring molten steel while your new concrete kitchen counter tops are drying,...just to kill some time. You're ready for some children my friend.
I think I will probably just buy this set before they disappear. Lord knows its a drop in the bucket against what I've spent already.
And, no the cruiser is still in Boise, but I leave tomorrow to go get it. Drive it back next week. How's that for a shake down drive?

No blast furnace, but now you've got me thinking.......

Did it many, many years ago in high school in shop class. We used to copy Hurst shift knobs, they actually turned out really good. And actually with aluminum you could polish them up to look like chrome? Problem is that it might not handle the square piece goes in there to open the door. Aluminum is so soft that it might just wear out very quickly.

Haven't given it much thought yet, but my plan was to run up to the local high shool and ask the shop teacher if I could pump a couple out. Or, maybe even have the kids do it for a project?

I just wasn't sure if any would be out there for the buying, so that was the plan in the back of my head.......


Countertops are dry and have been well used, wife very, very happy. You should see the landscaping project I'm thinking of doing this weekend in my front yard I've got 6 pallets of 16" retaining wall block just sitting there waiting for me. Got to bring home the track hoe and skidsteer Friday night and start making a BIG mess.

I was just KIDDING about the blast furnace and.....dang if you haven't done that already too. I just finished a big retaining wall project last month (versa lock). If you can incorporate them, we found these cool 12V lights that look like the pavers and the blocks, very cool.
Back to my question, what is damascening? I'm too lazy to get a dictionary?

I've got those lights that replace the paver blocks, planning on using those, pretty cool. I think this weekend might be just dedicated to the retaining wall portion of the project, just because of the size of it.

Probably going to start coring out for the side walk / paver are with the track hoe. Get that closer to ready to go....
