I finally finished some homemade hangars for my fj60 spring packs. I thought I'd share.

I overlapped heavy angle iron and clearanced the lower piece to allow the spring eye twist clearance. The hat bushings were used to fix improperly placed holes and are made of 1 1/4" Geoprobe drill rod, drilled to 3/4". I didn't weld them, but traded a 6 pack for an military machine shop guy to weld them. He put too much heat on one and I had to work on it to open it back up. All are ready for springs.

What inside dia tube do I need for the shackle frame bushings?

dug the 40 out of the barn

here are a couple of shots of the rusty 60 packs and side profile the 40 with a sua/shakle lift with old 35's. My wife's 95 snuck in a little too.

I'm going to cut the old pack straps off to allow me to dissasemble and more properly clean up the leaves. I'll weld on some new ones drilled for cross bolts. Any suggestions for spring paint?

i used 1/4 wall tube that had the right dimesions for my spring perches... i just cut them out with a plasma....

as for the the spring packs... i took mine apart and put new 3/8 center pins in them.. i used tremclad rust inhibitor paint... turns rust into a paintable surface... ;)
then sprayed them graphite lube when i put them back together... as for the inner tube i just took a bushing down to the local metal dealer and it fit in some sch 80 pipe....

hope thats any help...

Thanks hellbent. I just finished cutting the tops of all of the pack binding straps off leaving as much upright portions as possible. I'll weld on bolt tabs after I have them all cleaned up.

Does pitting rust affect the strength or life of the spring? There is some minor pitting.

When I reassemble the packs, should I leave out any of the short bottom leaves or will that allow the springs to fatigue? It seems like I shouldn't need them with the weight of a 40 compared to the rear of a 60.
