Have a 2014 Land Cruiser with just over 40,000 miles. Purchased new, mall cruiser and highway driven (aside from 1/2 mile ranch road off highway to house). Wife's daily driver. I occasionally drive it and will exercise the 4 Lo and CDL (only on unpaved ranch road). There is a very noticeable whine when 4 Lo is engaged that I haven't heard in any other land cruiser I've owned (80 and 100 series). In fact, I've never heard it in any other vehicle I've owned with AWD/4WD.

Anyone know if the 4 Lo whine is normal in the 200?

Thanks

I also hear some gear whine when I'm in 4Lo. I don't think this is particularly unusual.

Yup, my '17 is very whiney in low range.

Good timing. I spent about 30' tonight exercising 4lo and the CDL in my new-to-me '08 200 and was surpised the low range gear whine.

Also curious what the transfer case gearing is... in my 100 I'll do 25mph in 4lo comfortably, the 200 didn't seem to want to go that fast.

I have often done 25 and even 35 in 4L in my 2016. I do have the 8-speed. I sometimes
Eave it in D and sometimes I use S mode and vary the “upper limit” of the transmission. I’ve gone as high as S5 with no issues. I pretty much drive in 4L on any rough or narrow or steep or slick dirt and/or gravel/rocky road where I don’t expect to exceed 35 mph.

My 2008 and 2006 whines all the time in 4 lo. It's normal.

My '08 is much much louder than my '99. I spent all weekend bouncing around the class 4 roads in VT in my '99, then came home and last night spent about an hour working the CDL and 4lo buttons in the 200 and was surprised almost to the point of concern/alarm about how loud the gear whine is in low.

Happy to hear others experience the same and it is not an issue!

Mine has it but very subtle compared to my Tacoma which really whines in 4Lo.
