Gumby, go TRE. GM TRE's smallest dimension is 5/8" so reaming some arms from a 5/8" Rod end to a standard TRE taper is cake..
 
Where does one get a reamer to do that? I live in a small town and every time I ask at local shops they look at me as if I had bugs crawling out of my ears. I ask the local machinist and he acts as though I just asked for his first born.
 
I thought about making my own hi-steer arms for the D44 on the T-100, but after pricing the reamers, I just bought some.

I have a whole ton of valve cutting stones left over from when we use to cut a lot of heads. I wonder if I could cut one of those stones to the right taper for the TREs and carefully and slowly grind a taper?
