I believe the 4door only came with the V6.
If they made the new ones in a 4 cyl doublecab I would have bought one. They are all V6's. And I believe the previous generation doublecabs only came in automatics as well.
Not didn't they discontinue the 22R-E in the 90's?
1995 is the last year of the 22RE.

In the states the 4 door tacoma was offered with a 2.7 (4 cylinder) for the model years '01-04. In was only offered in the pre-runner models and was fairly rare. However, those who have this truck say it is underpowered and recommend against this option. I would imagine that if you equipped it with better gears 4.88 to 5.56, then it would be liveable.
