Hi guys I'm thinking of buying an 82 Hilux single cab with a 2lt 3Y gass engine.

It's a New Zealand truck so it missed out on the famous 22r, and there doesn't seem to be much info about these engines on the net.

Do any of you have experience with this engine or know if I could put a 22r in with not too many hassles.

Thanks Kelvin

Is it the stock engine? Cause the 2LT is a turbo diesel... and the 3Y is a gaser.... both could have been in your truck.... well maybe a 2L.... not sure on the years of the 2LT...

Honestly, I'd never heard of the 3Y till now.... :D

There's a link in the FAQ on swapping a 2LT into a 22RE truck (sounds like you have the 3Y though...) .... So I'm sure you can go the other way.... Just about anything is possible.

ahh I'm a dick Yea it's a 2 litre ie 2000cc gas engine, I should have clicked I used to have a 2lt engine.
Regards Kelvin

So I take it your not a fan of the 3y then. Any reasons?

I like the 3Y and 4Y. You can use them very hard, they will just go on.
But the carburator is :crybaby::crybaby::crybaby:, try to find a Weber from and old Ford Sierra or Ford Transitt 2l, and plumb the return line from the pump to the gas tank.
Another tips is to take the gearbox from a Daihatsu Rocky, there is lover gearing in it.

I don't have a 4Y, I've got a damned Diesel.
The 2.2 Litre 4Y has more Torque and more Horse Power than the 2.4 Litre Diesel 2L.
A complete new 4Y for AU$2,650 is a quarter of what my 2L cost for just a rebuild which still isn't right.
If in Australia we got the R series Engine it would of been a direct swap for the Diesel L series.

Huh, although this thread is old, I have a 3 Y on a daihatsu rocky. again, carb is driving me nuts, but gear is fantastic. was considering a swamp for a stornger engine... 22R is super popular here and super cheap. not sure i can do the swap without a new bell etc... any info??
