I'm a series 80 guy but had a quick question for the 4runner folks.

My brother has a 3rd gen 4runner and removed the factory Toyota bull bar....will this bar also fit a 2nd gen 4runner? I want to sell it to a friend but would rather not haul it over (an hour trip) to find out it doesn't fit.

Also, his (3rd gen) rear carpet is pretty trashed....are 2nd gens compatible or is 3rd gen the only one that will work?

Thanks.

I was just looking for arb bumpers and ran across a Craigslist ad for someone selling a 2nd gen bumper. Said they had a 3rd gen and it wouldn't fit. I have no other knowledge other than that. I'm sure the mounting is different too.

factory = option equipment from Toyota.

It's black and has a Toyota nameplate welded on it.

AHH!! Thank you for that lesson. It is just that I have never seen a factory bull bar for a 4runner.

Didn't mean to sound like a smart ass....just doing the best to answer it because you never know.

It surprised me too. He's not much into trails so I helped him take it off....it's black with a small black "Toyota" plate (also black) welded on the main thick bar. I could take pics if you're curious.

Does it bolt to the tow hooks like after market bull bars? The 2nd gen and 3rd gen 4runners are the same width but I am not sure about the frame rail width.

I'd like to see a picture just for curiosity sake if you can. :D

I think you posted in t4r.org about this as well and I replied there as well.

I've looked at pics of an ARB bumper mounted on a 2nd gen and it does look like the frame width is much smaller on the 2nd gen. I believe it could be made to fit but would require cutting and welding the brackets for sure.

Have any pics?

I have a 3rd gen 4runner & when I was researching front & rear bumpers they were always separated from the 2nd gen. Most of the time there would be a note that said also fits 3rd gen Tacomas. They changed the frame from the 2nd to the 3rd gen. The extra body cladding on the 3rd makes them a bit wider at 67.5 compared to the 2nd 66.5. So im pretty sure it wouldn't be too difficult to make a custom frame mount to attach it.

I was asking the OP if his bar attached to the tow hooks like the after market ones. I do not belong to any other forums, so it was not me asking.

3rd gen first year being 96 so I would say no they won't fit.
Looking at my ARB catalog the 95 and 96 are different parts.

I don't think very much at all is the same between 2nd and 3rd gen runners

Yeah, but can they be made to fit with a little bracket modification?

My ARB brackets were almost folded after the previous owner hit a van at 45mph....a little cut and weld to the brackets and it's almost as good as it ever was.

Here is some pictures. I can't find any information online for this model.

I'm hoping it's worth something/OEM because my brother is moving and needs the money (selling it).

Well that's pretty interesting...I've never seen or heard of a factory bull bar (at least state side).

I thought it was a bullbar like an ARB.

That will probably only fit a 96-98 3rd gen. The later years have the fatlip bumper and need to swoop outwards to clear the extended bumper.
