Good morning from 71 degree Colorado,

Had occasion to visit one of Denver's hoods this weekend. The kind of place where you think twice about going. As luck would have it my gravel guards for my PIAA driving lights were stolen.

That said, I purchased 3M clear bra and intend to forgo getting new gravel covers and clear bra the lights (driving and normal lights). In my opinion the lights look better without the huge white PIAA symbol screaming at you and they seem to be brighter.

Anyone have experience with this?

Thanks in advance for your responses.

I have our 911 covered from the intercooler intakes behind the doors up to the front bumper covered. Headlights, foglights, hood, fender, doors, mirrors, rockers...all of it. I love that stuff. I've only put it on my trucks lights, not the body but its nice. I've even got it on my spotlight lens. You can even get them in thicknesses up to like 19mil or 30mil, thick ass shiet!

im gunna do this on my lights up front. Get rid of the rockgaurd. that really blocks light like crazy

I had it done to my xB as soon as I drove it off the lot. Entire front bumper, quarter panels, rear view mirrors, and door sills. Sweet stuff.

Where's the best place to source the clear bra film? ...and is there any tips or tricks to applying it other than giving the surface a good cleaning beforehand?

EBAY. Tip. keep your fingers wet when touching the sticky side as it will pick up fingerprints.

IdahoDoug deals in the stuff, should be able to pre-cut to fit.

babysoappy water in a spraybottle, a proper squeegee and a heatgun to form the cuts to the lens. If you guys want to wait another week or so I'm getting mine redone on the LX, I could snap shots as it gets done, right now theres only one picture I have and thats on my tint/paint protection installers website gallery.

Crain, stick away from the ebay stuff unless they specify what brand the film is, and that its specified as a quality brand like 3M or VentureShield or the various other top tier products. Lots of the ebay crap yellows and is not optically clear. I'm redoing mine with VentureShield. The 911 has several different films on various parts, some films work better for puncture resistance, some abrasion and some mold to the body curves better.

Used 3M(from Ebay), did the front lights and Piaa Driving Lights, it was easy and looks good.

I made paper cut outs for all the lights, then transfered to the 3M and cut out. We shall see how they work out as Colorado has allot of gravel.

I love it when my wife wears her clear bra! Oh wait, wrong forum! :grinpimp: Seriously, I've had the 3M stuff on the front of my hood for 4 years and it's held up great. No chips on the paint at all. I may replace it this year just because it's faded and stands out a bit more.

How permanent is the adhesive? I have a set on another vehicle that I want to remove (same reasons). Is it just a matter of proper application of heat?

Just warm it up and pull, shouldn't even leave much residue. I pulled the ones off my truck with nothing left behind. Getting new stronger film put on.

I've pulled it off other headlights before too without residue left. Amazing stuff, they use it in the rolex grand am series to color the lights yellow for the GT cars and help prevent the lens from damage from debris on track.

My shop is redoing mine tomorrow or Friday I'll take some pix. Hopefully my guy doesn't flip on me when he has to work around the ARB hahah

If you guys have any questions on paint/light protection feel free to PM me. I'm a 3M dealer and have arranged 2 different group buys here on Mud. As noted there are varying qualities of film. The big variable is quality of application in terms of cosmetics. It's great stuff and works as advertised as long as you don't go cheap.

Not hunting for sales - just want you to know you have a friend in the biz...

Regards,

DougM

I just wrapped my new skis in 3M paint protection film today....that was an....interesting experience.

I should go take some pix of the new new film on the headlights huh?

Northglenn

Why, did you happen to steal some PIAA gravel guards on that day?
