Seems that the warmer weather make it hard to start my 3FE. And if not parked nose down hill, it makes it near impossible to start. Any ideas on a fix? Takes a whole lot of turning over to get it to fire up, pumping the gas/flooring the gas doesn't seem to help.

Is it always hard to start or just the first start? I had a hard to start first start only problem with my 3FE that had me stumped and I finally tracked it down to the wiring backing out of the the cold start injector plug.

Probably not the same problem but I thought I'd throw it out because I was shocked how hard it was to start the truck with the cold start injector not firing. You might also check if the cold start injector is clogged or leaking. I had mine cleaned the same time I did the main injectors and it was a mess of carbon (it's right next to the EGR pipe into the intake).

Sometimes the second try works, sometimes not, but never the first try unless it's been sitting for only 30ish minutes or less. I'm thinking a good thorough cleaning might do the trick, but I still think there is something wrong with the cold start injector. What is the temp. threshold for it to come on?

Mine is sorta similar to that, but it never starts then dies. Will check the FPR, don't have the FSM right in front of me, but is there a way to check it?

Mine (88 FJ62 with 143k) has this same problem. I replaced the FPR and this helped alot; however i still have a hard start issue when the vehicle is warm (say been sitting for a few hours after driving it). I have noticed that there is a fair amount of oil/unburnt gas smoke when i start it up. Once it's idled for a few minutes it runs great and there is no smoke. I'm thinking that not only is my intake gummed up, but that the EGR might be sticking open. I'm planning to disassemble the intake and EGR and give it a good cleaning. Hopefully that will help.

It may also need new valve seals, but I'm going to wait on that.

Well, seems that it is probably the FPR, gonna be about a hundred and 10 bucks from Dan, gah the list keeps growing. I reckon I'll just park downhill for the next few weeks, cause the pops isn't gonna wanna hear this.

Is there any way to check the FPR for operation?
