3FE Straight from Headers..how loud?

Yea, I know it's not a 62, but you guys know more about the 3FE than the 80 guys do.

Here's teh problem, I'm in dire need of getting my exhaust redone, it is hanging down all over the place, and when my ghetto rigging fails it rides on my drive-shaft.

Im thinking I'm gonna cut the exhaust off right in front of the cats, and leave it this way for a week or so, just until I can get it to the shop to get it replaced with duals straight back.

How loud will this be? Any worse than a V8 whatever with Flowmasters? Will I have any problems with the 5-Oh? Remember, I'm in bass ackwards NC with plenty of trucks running REAL loud.

Its not too bad, it sounds kinda crappy rather than cool, but you should be fine for a week. The O2 sensor might trip and set off idiot light. Also make sure your shop will by-pass the cats before you remove them. It is illegal for them to do so and all things living will cease to be the moment you start your vehical.

How does crappy sound? Like those ricer Hondas? Or just not as cool as a V-8?

If you stay out of the gas, they aren't too loud. Not a ricer sound, but not a V6 or V8 either. I6 engines sound like tractors.

You guys got different standards than I do. I love the sound of an open headered V8. An open headered straight six is the worst sound in the world. Especially a low compression straight six.

What about if I cut the exhaust off right after the cats, and then let the shop cut the cats out? Would that sound be a little more tollerable than just open headers?

Very likely so. I've run rigs with just the cats and it is often as quiet as if it had mufflers.

Well, right now it has been cut off before the trashcan muffler, it isn't bad at all, I can feel a few more ponies (might be placebo though). Just need to get it cut right after the cats so the exhaust pipe wont be rattling on my drive shaft thanks to Toyota's one engineering flaw, the exhaust routed over the shaft with no support to keep it there when the oversized muffler hits something.

ive got a 2f, MAF RV Cam, weber carb and header, with just a glass pack it sounds ok but with a hollow glass pack its sweet i think, ill take a pic
