3FE life expectancy?

Old thread but I'll bite. At 270k now. Bought it with an overheating problem at 265k and all original cooling system so I'm sure it got cooked a few times. I had to scrape sludge from the adjuster screws when I adjusted the valves, I have not seen a more dirty engine.

Still ticking along every day, knock on wood.

My thoughts on the matter (for anyone else wondering) is that you'll be sick of the engine before it wears out. And if it does, you'll be glad it did.

I just installed a rebuilt 3FE in my '86 FJ60, with a new H55f/'89 FJ62 split transfer case ready to bolt on. Some have said here on MUD that the H55f really wakes up the 3FE. Can't wait!

It's no speed machine but this is basically correct. A whole different feel to the motor.

Nice going to see this project through. The 3FE is a fine motor, and better than the 2F for sure.
