3fe head bolt retorque

Is re torquing the head bolts on a 3fe necessary after a head gasket job? It says no such thing the the FSM but I am just curious what others do.

TrickyT on this board just went through this and did retorque after 500 miles or so. I was present and he did get some movement on several bolts.

I also retorqued mine after 500 miles. I had a little trouble getting to some of the bolts but its good piece of mind considering the amount of work that goes into R/R the head. I would do a valve adjustment while youre in there too.

I did it at 500 miles also. There was movement on some bolts. It doesn't take that long so its definitely worth it. I'll thank D Animal for the advice.

After 1000 miles, no movement on the bolts. I guess I did a good job the first time. I probably did it in 5 steps.

Works.

Some will say its overkill on a cruiser motor but I got to used to doing aluminum heads in between cruisers that it become second nature.

I've got one of those, and a couple of the "rotate the handle" type torque wrenches. I guess the beam-type can't really go out of calibration like the others....
