My 3FE is running great now, but not getting oil to the rocker assembly. Have noticed from another post that if a head gasket is put on wrong it could block the oil gallery for the rockers. Does anyone know how I could check this with the head on?? Just paid 3K to have it done, and it seems something is wrong. Cant go back to the mechanic who did it as he is 5000kms away. Thanks

If memory serves me, I remember the oil traveling up through 1 or 2 of the "stands" (not sure what they are called) that hold the roller rocker "tube" in place. They may have not matched up the ported ones with the oil passage/s. Easy to fix. Remove rocker assembly and make sure the oil passage/s are matched with the ported "stands". Maybe someone can chime in.

There should be a tab of gasket that hangs out the back between the block and head. If it was put on backwards, this tab would stick out the front and have to be cut off for the water pump to go one I believe.... Is there no flow to the rocker assembly, or just not as much as you would expect? It doesn't need much...

The mechanic only said that there was not much coming up. For him to mention it I suppose there should be a lot more.

These engines get very gunked up. A thorough SeaFoam treatment....through the PCV...a can dumped into a hot valve train....and wherever else you think you could get it to clean should help. Other than that, it's going to take all but a rebuild. Then again, these engines don't get all that much flow to the valve train.

Further info

Received the mechanics receipt in the mail today. It says that there is little to no oil getting to the rockers. The rockers are worn as is the shaft. I am thinking that the current assembly is gunked up and has caused this issue. The mechanic measured 55psi oil pressure which he said was fine. Fingers crossed it is just gunked up in the top end.
I have purchased a replacement rocker assembly which I am waiting on to arrive. I am hoping that this will fix the problem. Will update when known.
