Like many folks I am looking for additional convenient storage. Anyone done anything like the below? Image shamelessly stolen from Instagram.

I think this would/could be a bolt-in option? In place of the DIN slot just have a small cubby? Has anyone seen anything like this? A few years ago there were a few produced that went across the entire roof (NLA) , I am just looking for something small like this. This would still require a change in visors, but since most people's are failing anyway and the LS400 is an easy fix.....

Could be 3D printed pretty inexpensively I would think? @bhicks maybe?

I have never thought about putting a storage space up there but I don't see why that wouldn't work. Unfortunately I am now entering my crazy busy season. All R&D is on hold until the holidays are over. November and December are nuts with wives buying gifts, then January is nuts with husbands using giftcards on my site, then February is back to nuts with wives buying more stuff for Valentines. March is when my sanity returns and I can look into this project.

I'm in for something like this. Not interested in the Factory console but I have Tilt meters from a 4runner that I'd like to mount in that space. Already have the JDM visors so if I could get one done, that would be awesome

If/when the time comes to prototype I have a factory overhead console you can use to help. It obviously has all the attachment points on it and the footprint you could use for doing up measurements. or I can take some pics and mark them up with measurements and send it to you.

My 80 should have everything I need, but I don't have the fancy console with the roll over meter thing. Mine is the standard overhead console with the light and sun roof controls.

I had one of the PVC full shelf ones mentioned in the first post so have experience with mounting. Happy to help out too when you're ready.

Interested in hearing more on this + photos. How has it worked out. any issues

Sold it. The shelf was great if you had a pre 96 version. The molded headliner of my 97 dipped right at the point where the shelf lip finished which made it difficult to get my hand into the shelf
