It's the idea fill it with oil .. or it should take motor oil to lube the IP and you should check it as usual as you check your engine oil . ?

thanks !

David

Your IP should get oil from the engine.
What engine is that... is that the regular oil dipstick or is ther another one on the engine.
If you look your IP is bolted to the front gear cover on the engine and should share the same oil source I am thinking that that is your engine dip stick.

Wow, I've never seen that before.

My fuel pump gets lubed through the gear train on the front of the engine.

It's a B engine out of 76 BJ40 .. the engine have it's own dipstick .. this one it's just for the IP ..

Its obvious it is a fluid level dip stick I am curious on how you would put oil into the IP,unless it is suppossed to have a special lube oil and is closed off from the gear case Im stumped...I would look for a FSM or a owners manual on that year engine

I have a FSM that covers the older H series diesels and they had similar pumps isolated from the engine oil supply. It's a 6 cylinder version of the pump in that photo.

The FSM indicates that the pump should use SAE30 weight oil. The 6 cylinder pump requires 170cc of oil. I assume the 4 cylinder will be less. You fill it through the dipstick tube using a small funnel.

Brilliant dude .. thanks !

The linkage on the back of the pump is connected to the throttle plate. Inside the pump it's connected to the governor cam. This is essentially a throttle position signal. It works in combination with the pneumatic diaphragm for sensing engine load.

According to the FSM this is a type MN governor.

The front cable linkage is connected internally to the governor stop lever and full stop capsule. It looks like it is a shutoff/over-injection lever.

Hopfully it still has 22158 plate and 22157 plug in it, (the IP drain )
