Alright well I plan on doing a SAS very soon and getting 63" chevy's under the ass end. I'm looking for some reasonably priced 36's or 37's and military tires seem like a good option. My truck never sees the rocks so I'm not so concerned about the sidewall flex. I know all the militarys are 16.5r's and 12.5 wide. The width doesnt really bother me and I'll get some junkyard stock chevy rims if worse comes to worse. My problem is what tire model should I look for. I know that Michelin and Goodyear make military tires but which ones are better? Where can I get them in 36/37 besides ebay? I checked out some gov auction sites and they are all 52r20's

Check out tyres1.com they have some 36" goodyears for around 112.00

From what I've read those tread patterns are a little out dated. Any thoughts on that? Despite that seems like a great deal for brand new tires. I've also looked and seen that some military distributers have tires with a more agressive patterns, anyone know the names of other models?

look for 9.00r16 michelin xl's or xzl's

they are what you want :)

I've wanted a set of those forever. I have no clue where to find them. Canadian military installation in New Brunswick, maybe?

The 9.00r16's are how wide though? They dont look 9in wide and that seems kinda small. is the 9 the tread width?

O the irony of the website name. Those tires seem a little skinny though I want atleast 12.5 wide.

Yeah I'm definatly not going with a tire that skinny. I think 12.5 is my ideal width just to keep onroad/offroad balance. I want to find out more about these Goodyear RT II's they look like a hardcore MT outer tread with more of an AT in the center section. Anyone run them?

Not many will due to the 16.5" wheel, the angle of the bead seat is too steep (or flat, I forget which) and prone to blow beads, unless you run double beadlocks which add to the cost and make the tires less desirable.

Generally speaking I dont run rocks, ever. :o I've heard of those problems but these tires are really a stage between SAS money and 36.5 TSL radial money :D

Tread life seems to be good as far as I know as the rubber compound is fairly firm. If you do lots of rock crawling they wouldn't be for you, but as a multi-purpose tire that fits easily and can be had cheap, it would be a great tire.

Then what do you run that you need such a large tire and a solid axle? Mall crawler?

Toyota IFS is junk. Truck is in no way a mall crawler. If the truck were a ford it would be a different story. I'd leave the IFS because it can actually flex and take a beating. My IFS is breaking on real easy s***. I'm puttin it on 36's because theres some serious woods trails around here. Thats mostly what I run.

I would do the SAS first. The Michelins are like 10-ply so they're heavy. You would have less rotating mass with the Swampers.

Yeah the Goodyears are 6 ply with 4ply sides. Those are the ones I wanna get. I'll probably wind up with the RT II's

36x12.5 16.5 goodyear tires

You can get those tires from a company in West Virginia there name is Clark Truck Parts there web site is www.clarktruck.com thay restore military trucks and humers I think. But I know they have these tires I saw them listed in there online store. I just found them a few days ago.
