I'll give you my experience, your results may vary.
I'm running SuperSwamper SSR's in 35 X 10.5 X 16's, first installed with OME 886/895 combo (swapped later for ICON's up front). Its my experience that width causes more issues, thus the reason I went with a 10.5 tire.
You will need to do the "body mount chop" unless you want to tear them up on the body mount. Watch wheel choice and keep stock backspacing (4 5/8) unless you want to have issue with UCA rubbing. I'm not a fan of wheel spacers so I kept with stock backspacing. I get minor rubbing in the rear wheel wells right as they lay on the bump stops. It rubs just enough to have rubbed off the undercoating, no other issues on my rig.
Mine is a "wheeler" and has been pushed to its limits with this set up.
The other "issue" is re-gearing. You will get varied opinions on this topic. Its my experience that it is something that would be best advised to plan on, if not right away, down the road. Even with 33's, I found a loss of power and issues on the road. Re-gearing gave the rig back its "off the showroom" manners when accelerating and cruising.
Can you avoid it, sure. Is it "required", no. I'd just say that all you have to do is drive an FJC w/35's w/o re-gear, then drive one w/re-gear and see for yourself.
Hope this helps...
