Hey guys. I'm trying to decide tire size for my HDJ81 and a certain someone on here has convinced me that 35s may be the answer as opposed to 33s.

I'd like to drive the truck on 35s to see if the gearing is a good match before laying down$$ on a new set of Duratraks. Anyone have a spare set I could throw on for a bit?

Or even better anyone have a set of used 315/75/R16s they want to sell?

Daryl

Ive got one for you............three more guys like me and you have a set..:hillbilly:

I think it will help out your 81 especially with that H151 trans you have.

You set on duratraks?
Why not some toyo mts or Cooper STTs?

I ran the Duratraks on my 61 and really liked them. Plus they are a bit easier to run year-round given they are "snowflake" tires (yeah, yeah, I know). I did have a set of STTs before the Duratracks but for the same money, I'd got Duratrak.

Yeah, with 31s, the engine is still screaming in 5th gear. I was going to setltle on 33s but might bump up to 35s. Funny, the best fuel Mileage I got on my 61 was with the 35s, probably because it brought the RPMs down so much.

Not sure if my 2 cents are helpful but I just bought a 5 speed 81 on 33's and I was looking for a 6th gear on the highway. The truck is parked for six months or so until we move back to Kelowna but I'm definitely going with 315's for the "tire overdrive" when she becomes my DD.

Gotta say though, loving the 5speed. Mileage is already a huge improvement, I'm getting 11.5L/100km, with the auto I was up around 12.5L/100km at the best of times.

One thing I don't have to worry about as much on the 81 is the height on 35s. My 61 (raised roof) was over 7ft tall with the 35s which made garages/parkades an issue. My 81 is much shorter.

Interesting though, when I was comparing the 81 to the 61, the cargo area dimensions were pretty close. the 81 doesn't have the raised roof, but its cargo area is also 'lower'. The only dimension that was really different was that the cargo area on the 81 was about 3" shorter.

My thoughts exactly...my old 61 had yellow marks on the roof from the downtown kel parking garage..."you're good" says the attendant
