yep this truck uses 35 spline shafts with a landcruiser diff. It dosn't use that unit but if the side gears don't hold up as they are just welded to the carrier that arb unit exists as an upgrade, very cool they offer such a strange beast.

You can see a writeup of Bens axle in one of the newest crawl mags.

I stumbled across this little gadget the other day and was pretty surprised to have never seen any documented use of it.

Wild West Off Road - 35 Spline Land Cruiser Air Locker (Powered by CubeCart)

Does anybody here have any info on it, or experience setting up a 35 spline Cruiser axle?

I have this unit currently being setup by a local shop. I actually contacted Tim Lund, while he was still at ARB, a few years ago & wanted to see if I could fit 35 spline shafts into an LC diff. To my suprise, Tim said it could be done. I waited for a looong time for this whole little project to come together, & it's getting so close. CTM Racing actually performed the machinework on the side gears & Tim machined the flange caps for the larger O.D. bearings. My gear setup guy is having trouble getting a good pattern due to the gears being cryo rimmed or I woulda had it back by now  I'll post up a pic when it's ready. It's going in my new 55alanche project.

Zach, Hows the Ring and Pinion Holding up in the old Raisin, Now that its got v8 Power?

Seems kind of pointless to go to 35 splines if the R&P's are breaking on trucks with the 30 spline cromo stuff.. am i thinking right here??

No issues with the raisin's rear end other than the side gears let loose one time and we are debating a solution for this that doesn't cost $1000 if it happens again. Ring a pinions in land cruiser thirds a pretty tough in a rear application granted that the u-joint doesn't bind (non-ring and pinon related). Christo blew up 2 in the front of the Blueberry (SAS'd 100) but that is a very heavy truck and it happened when both front tires grabbed simultaneously after being in a wheelie both times.

I think it is important to stay 4.11 gear ratio though...

Good stuff guys.

I'd like to build a 35 spline rear for my fj62 some day. I like toyota parts too :) I'm thinking:
Diamond housing w/ 35 spline ARB 4.11 3rd!

Who's breaking Cruiser 9.5" R&P's?

It depends where .. I saw few 4.88 with axle wrap problems .. but all at the pinion splines.

I personally have only broken one pinion and it was coarse spline. It failed when my wrap bar tore off my axle and wrapped up like a mofo (only thing stuck together with 110 welder on my truck, welds were cold, not proud of that craftsmanship). It went something like bang, BANG. I have not heard or seen a fine spline pinion let go in any situation other than when the u-joint bound, teeth will get knocked off first. With 4.11 gears the LC third makes for a pretty stout member, but you have to remember with a higher ratio other components earlier in line see more stress, mainly t-cases. My personal theory is that the 9.5” landcrusier diff is the same strength as a taco 8.4, I have seen both broken.

What are you planning on running for axle shafts?

Easily do Big bearing 9" ends with 35 spline 9" stuff...

Course, the 9" third is one hell of a lot stronger than the cruiser third..

True story especially when a G for locker doesn’t seem to phase the OP. I, personally, just like the Toyota axles because they are reasonably strong, high clearance in stock form and I can get them for dirt cheep. Not to mention that there is no need for specialty nickel and dime parts like special drive shafts and what have you, everything continues to be compatible. I will have all of $150 wrapped up into my new 8.4 4skinner axle to go with my new t-case :D If I brake shafts I may put chromos in it, if I break anything else I will not hesitate to pull that axle, Ben has a lot of coin wrapped up into his rear axle, for me a cheaper solution would be better.

35 spline toyota axles

We carry the toyota 35 spline axles individually, or you can get as a kit w/ housing ends, so you can run 35 spline toyota axles/brakes/etc w/ d60 center or anything 35 sp. for that matter.

Just picked it up today :bounce2: Cryo rimmed 4.88's & RD33:
