So people who have either 33x10.5 or 9.5 on stock wheels (i have a 75 if it matters). A few questions:

1) How do they do offroad on obsticals (rocks and the like)?
2) Do they rub? Where do they rub (getting sag steering)?
3) would you get the same size again?
4) Which tire do you have?

im going for an old school build with 2.5" off lift and sag steering, and cant decide on a tire width. I would probibly get a MT unless i got the 9.5's which i would get an AT...

i have not found a 33x9.5 MT...i know BFG used to have them...but cant find them anymore.

I really like the BFG KM2's...i realize thats not a good tire for an "old school" build...but i like the tire. I like the BFG AT/KO, but dont like the way they perform in mud...which im sure to encounter where i trail ride.

Why would you get the AT's in 9.5 but not the MT's? If you're using stock wheels and sag steering, either should be just fine....especially with a 2.5" lift....

33x9.5 M/T are no longer available.

I have 33x10.50 bfg at's on mine.
I will hopefully be getting a set of 33x10.50 mud terrains to run.
The only issue you will have and it may be present on the 9.5 tires is you have to run at below 30 psi on the road or they mushroom and ride in the center of the tire. I run mine at 28 psi and have had no issues.
Minor rubbing on the tub on the rear with 2.5 inch ome springs.

Anyone else have issues with their 33x10.5's on stock wheels rubbing? The wheeling i do the wheels WILL be stuffed into the wheel wells on a regular basis, so if thats gonna be an issue i may run the narrower tires.

any trail reports with the 9.5's?

Just put the BFG 33x9.5 AT KO's on and they have done well.....mostly road however w/ a 2.5 inch lift.
that doesnt help me, this will probibly be 30/70 road and offroad (trails and beaches for fishing), its gonna be a weekend toy. Have you wheeled your truck on rocks with the 9.5's?

I've got 33-9.5s (at) on my rig, I found out the hard way soft sand and 9.5s don't play well together.

If you are going to spend a lot of time in the sand I agree, 10.5 is the way to go. My 10.5 ats do fine in the rocks and some mud.

I have run my 33X9.5 bfg MTs over everything....

I don't have power steering (yet), so the narrower tire is nice on road...off it's hell no matter what...

I had no problems in rocks, but I am worried about the lack of sidewall protection on these tires...and for that reason will go with something else,

they are at the end of thier lifespan, I probably will go to 10.5 KM2's when I'm done, or toyo open country MTs,

I ran mine at 35 psi on the road, 10 on the trail

Hey can the peeps out there recommend something for me? I also have a 1975 fj40.. with 4 inch lift and 2 inch ext. shackles. Right now I have 33x12.50 AT tires.. they are decent on road, but still tend to pull the truck into whatever grooves show up on the asphalt.

I run almost entirely on asphalt... I haven't had the time to wheel in just about forever.. so aggressive tread is not needed. Occasionally i trailer a 2000 lb load on some dirt roads, but that's about it.

What i'm thinking (incorrectly?) is a more narrow tire would have better on road manners? Yes? No?

gerry

My 33x10.5x15 BFG MT handle SOOOO much better on the road than the set of 33x12.5.15 that was on it when I got it.
Mind you it still pulls around in the stud ruts on the pavement...but I am just used to hugging the white line to avoid the ruts.

do you have any pics of your truck offroad?

Anyone else with 33x10.5's have any rubbing issues? Or do your tires not rub?

10.5

I dont think the 10.5s will be a big prob and it will probably track straighter too plus they look great. Another advantage to the skinnier tire is not as much stuff flung down the sides of your baby;)

I had wide low profiles on my suburban and they had a slow leak and they were really awful for following ruts but keeping the TP up where it belonged helped that a lot

Everyone has there pref but I think the 33 x 10.5 is the best look with a 4 inch lift, if you are going off road why not go a little higher with it?

stability for one, these bad boys are top heavy with the hard top on. Second if im doing 4" lift, i want do to a SR, etc. But all that jazz requires longer driveshafts front and rear according to Man-e-fre. Which is something i dont want to deal with right now. So my plan is to get the 2.5" lift for now, and go higher down the road if i decide i want to.

Im just concerned about 10.5's rubbing with a 2.5lift on the trail...

lift

ahh, I got ya

I did have to modify my drive shafts but then again I went from a 3 to 4 speed and from a 71 drivetrain to a 79
cost me around $270 for the pair at a local shop using the correct size metric pipe---the metric pipe is a bite spendy but it is worse if they cant get it and have to machine to fit standard pipe size.

I have heard both ways on the 4 inch lift if it is not a 3 to 4 swap, Some people claim they get by without lengthening but I dont know for sure

But it doesnt sound as you are all that interested in a 4 inch anyway so I guess the 9.5 would be the safe bet unless you feel like you can live with the rubbing, if it comes up

I saw Kelly tires mentioned somewhere for a 33x9.5x15 but I am not sure if it is AT or MT

Prolly need a few more firsthand from guys running that combo eh?
