Does anyone have an old spare 33X10.5 or 33X9.5?
Just getting the rig ready for May . . .

Thanks

Norm,

No it doesn't really need tread . . . in fact, it'll be lighter and I'll be able to go faster. 3B and 3.73's, yee ha. I just need a spare to roll me off the trail should the inevitable flat occur.

Right-o. Perhaps you could bring it to the April mtg?

It's a 255/85R16 - do you have a 16" rim? If so I can bring it to the meeting.
Oooh, 33s + 3.70s. At least there'll be ONE person going slower than me up the hills...!

I run 33's and 3.73's on the FJ55 and it pulls well on the hills here in Guatemala. Guatemalan hills are generally quite steep too.

Norm,

Darn it. I have 15" rims

I ran, 33's and 373's for years, pretty good highway gearin, been runing 35's with 373 for more years now, a bit slower, but 2nd gear is more useful because not as low as it used to be.:hillbilly:

just keep er pined through the corners on the canyon, and make sure no gassers are in the way, them bastereds always like to start the hills at a leisurely pace

That's my point - YOU have a turbo, our 70s don't. Throwing a turbo into the mix changes things pretty dramatically.

Trust me, once you get a turbo on there you'll be wondering why you waited so long!! My '60 was without a turbo until about 6 years ago and I've been driving it for 20 years. I well know how a non-turbo'd 3B takes on the Coquihalla.

The '55 was turbo'd from the moment we started it 4-5 years ago and so is the FJ45LV.

The FIRST mod on any diesel in my future is a turbo if there isn't one already.

There was a guy at Cruiser days 2 years back (or 3) with a 40 and a Mercedes 300D turbo which is a perfect match for the 3B as well. You can get those used for under $100, rebuilt for a couple hundred and then just have to get a manifold made up. Regrettably the 13BT manifold won't work but everything done for under $1000 with all the bits and pieces (on average). Much cheaper then the AXT.

hmmmm....a turbo on my 3B...sounds like 5Gs well spent if you ask me.

I have not spend 5Gs (labour NOT included) for all three turbo systems combined, and one of them is an AXT. You CAN do it on the cheap and have an acceptable system.

It makes a difference on the Coquihalla as well as powering up hills in Mexico and Central America. Shortly after the AXT kit install on the '60 I went from Kelowna up the Connector, and we all know that LONG hill. It used to be, get comfortable and do it in 3rd but with the turbo I was in 4th with the accompanying speed increase.

Turbo'd 3b is the only way to go... NA is waay to slow.

You can buy a brand new garret for about 1000. The manifold and adapter are about 600. Then some exhaust and fittings you will max out around 2k for a new DIY kit. Or pay 3500 for an AXT kit. Or a bit less for a turboglide or denco.

You can do junkyard too. But my junkyard cost me with a rebuild on the turbo and a bearing housing, so it was a 200 dollar junkard plus a 100 rebuild kit and a 200 dollar bearing housing. I'd rather bought a new turbo.
