Hi all wondering if anyone has tried fitting a 315/70/17 tire with a 17x8.5 rim stock height? After reading multiple post I believe i've seen it done with 315/70/16 with stock wheels. I don't wheel or hit anything crazy the Lx450 is pretty much for family and commuting/highway in SoCal, maybe hit up big bear 3-4 times a year. Ill be looking to upgrade suspension to OME 2.5 Mediums possibly next year. Also, would I be ok with not re gearing? I've read post of ppl not re gearing; however they live in AZ and its pretty much flat out there. Thanks all appreciate it!

Yes they'll fit. Not without some rubbing off road, but on road you will be OK. Backspacing close to that of the stock wheels is probably ideal.

315/75R16 is the size that fits with stock wheels, and is comparable to a 315/70R17. I don't believe 315/70R16 is a size anyone makes.

Gearing will be up to you. It'll drive and function just fine with stock gears, but it would be better if you re-geared. FWIW, I'm running 37x12.50R17s with stock gears and it works well for me in the canyons and mountains of Utah. I do want to re-gear, but it's not stopping me from enjoying the Cruiser now.

Depending on "stock" and tire brand, 315's rub, will hit tupperware, mostly minor. If wheeling, can hit rear frame and inner wheel well, again tire brand affects how much. Some adjusting, trimming, bump stop spacers fix the problem.

Yep.

Byrson thanks so much for the info, I've been on the fences with going with that size esp after reading threads about more strain on the engine, being sluggish, gas mileage ect. My Lx has 160k miles and runs smooth I figured I'd do it now VS later, also being I don't plan on going on trails anytime soon.

Tools thanks for the reply and beautiful photos! Man maybe one day ill be able to hit up a tail like that! I'll look into those bumpstop spacers. Any recommendations? Also im looking into getting Falken Wild Peak AT3ws, Sorry I was pertaining to "flat" highway driving lol.

If you don't intend to wheel it, why big tires?

Something like this, depending on tire size, etc. They will reduce suspension travel likely best used with a lift.

We have plenty of 7-10% highway grades, that is how you get to the mountains.

If your not planning on wheeling it you might as well try for 37's on the stock suspension. :cautious:

I like the look pretty much. I have a huge interest in wheeling but maybe not for the LX I also have a Cruiser on standby and most likely use that.

If I didn't do that correctly, post 35 is my rig with that size tire on stock springs. Worked just fine around town.
