I'm posting this question in this thread, as well as in the 100 series forum, because it relates to the 2UZ itself: I have a 2005 Sequoia Limited 4WD, 238,000 miles, and my question is: Has anyone else had an experience of having your Sequoia sit for a period of time (maybe 2 days or longer) and when you go to crank it, it - no exaggeration - sounds like something's about to come through the block? When I crank it and this happens, it sounds like it has NO oil in it at first, then oil pressure rises and all gets quiet. I've owned the truck for about 18 months, have put about 10,000 miles on it, and it's happened twice, once about 6 months ago and again last night.
I thought it might have something to do with the VVTi system allowing the oil to bleed down and causing the oil pump to lose its prime, but I recalled this happening at least once on a 150,000 mile 2003 LX470 I used to own, which wasn't VVTi. I've owned at least a dozen 2UZ-powered Toyota products, and I've only had this happen on 2 of them. For info, I ONLY use appropriate weight Mobil 1 and either Mobil 1 filter or OEM Toyota filter.

Just thought I'd check the knowledge of this group to see if anyone has had this experience or knows of an issue? Thanks. (By the way, this is NOT valvetrain noise. This is a deep, lower block noise that sounds JUST like the truck has ZERO oil in it. Again, it's only happened twice in the last 18 months, and I had it happen once with another 2UZ about 10 years ago.)
