What color and material is your intake manifold?

It's the black plastic style. Could it be a mistake in the 05 to 06 FSM? Kind of weird the two years in the middle would have such a big difference. 05 to 09 heads and gaskets are the same part numbers.

Then I think you have the same as Carterb341’s. 2005 was a transition year so maybe that’s the issue.

Another quick question for you @chbrow10 . Did you notice after having the head and block machined that the timing was slightly off? While installing my timing belt I noticed that my cam marks are less than half a tooth off. The only thing I can think off that would cause that is the fact that I had my heads and block resurfaced.

We didn’t have to do any machining.

Well that makes sense haha. I spoke to the machine shop and they confirmed it was due to the heads and block being resurfaced and not to worry about it. I'm excited and nervous to get this bad boy in. Can't find any examples of 2UZs bored .20 over online. I'm sure it's been done before but it feels like uncharted territory.

The manual I'm using for the engine work is a 2005 to 2006 Tundra VVT-I. I'm pretty sure those were made in America as well. I'm super confused by this. I'm really not sure which way to go. Picking the block and heads up at machine shop this afternoon and this discrepancy has me super stressed.
Thank you @chbrow10 for originating this thread. And thank you @Welsheeyit for chiming in with some more information. I have a 2002 Tundra with compression issues at only about 177k miles. Problem came out of nowhere and after throwing a couple thousand dollars at it didn't want to throw another several thousand to my mechanic to "fix" it so I'm considering rebuilding the motor myself and came across this thread today. I'll probably be back here for reference material when that times comes. Is anyone aware of other first gen Tundra motor rebuild resources out there? I haven't officially made the decision to rebuild this yet because I'm in the rust belt (Minnesota) and I had my mechanic inspect my frame prior to picking the truck back up. In his professional opinion, he said he wouldn't invest any more money in the truck. I really don't want to abandon it though. The frame isn't total junk, but it has a couple spots that most likely won't allow the truck to hit the million mile mark. Currently contemplating what to do and have considered trying to find a scrap truck somewhere outside the rust belt to salvage a clean frame from.

Kinda late for you guys, but for anyone else…

They also have pistons, rods, manual swap flywheels and clutches and a whole bunch of other crap for these engines.

I found a GX470 service manual and used that. It is 30 ft lb and then a 90° turn plus another 90° turn. I have 500 mi on her now. That website is interesting. It was $2,800 for all the machine work including the new Pistons, rings, and complete valve job. The 2002 motor will be a lot cheaper than anything after 2005 so I would just get a low mileage used one. Do a good tune-up with new water pump, timing belt, starter, etc.
