Can a 2H with a 4 Speed be mated with the later H55 5 speed?

Yeah depending on which H55 you get. If the h55 is off a 4 banger you'll have to swap input shafts ( read: basically a tranny rebuild).

My HJ-47 has an aussie 4spd & splitcase with 2H. An H55 would fit nicely in there...

2H and F/2F share the same shaft input shaft...

The main diference is in the main shaft with the front bearing ... 4 banger and 6 banger. But in your case you need to know if the H55F comes from a 6 banger ( 2H ) engine.
