....back in the saddle again....
Just installed what might be a faulty mechanical oil pressure guage to go with my faulty stock oil pressure guage....
The mechanical guage is reading around 60psi at idle. When I rev the motor it reads infinity = that is, it pegs on the bottom of the needle stop, just below zero.
Throughout, the stock guage reads very low or right on the L line.
I cracked the mechanical connector to try to bleed out air in the line... boy, howdy!! I can tell you for sure that there is pressure in there!! I've now got motor oil on the hood, the driveway, all over my clothes (at least it isn't 90wt) and just about everywhere else. Amazing how much oil can shoot out of that little hose in the time it takes to dive for the EDIC cut lever....
In fiddling with everything, I noticed a broken wire on the ground for the stock sender, fixed that. Stock guage still reads low.
More info: I just changed the oil day before yesterday (40 monograde) new filter, have driven 70kms since. Oil level was a tad high (right on the H on the dipstick) but I'm sure it is lower now...
Stock oil pressure guage reads zero on startup, but if I blip the throttle it climbs up to the middle of the guage.
After warming up the motor, the oil pressure reading drops steadily down to the L line. The cutoff never activates, so there must be at least some oil pressure.
Mechanical guage is old- took it off of the 40, where it worked fine.
And here is the part that makes me suspect bad electrical: while driving to get the oil changed the other day, for just a little while the pressure guage was reading nearly 1/2... I hadn't changed rpms at all, nor load. It stayed there for about 5 minutes, then fell down to L again.
All thoughts welcome. This has got me scratching my oily head.
