Hello All,
I was wondering what realm of possibility would be to put a 1HDT/1HD-FT engine in an 88 HJ75. I am sure I would have to change the wiring harness and fuel pump.

Years and a quick rundown of Yota Diesel engines

Would this fit the current engine mounts? Would I have to move all of them or just two.
Would it bolt to the current manual transmission and bell housing?

Has anyone done this? I have seen hints at this but no solid information. Sorry, if this a common obvious post. New to the technical side of the 70 series.

I can always go to 12H-T. But going as new as reasonable possible

The 12 HT would be easier as its basically a 2H that has been strengthened and turboed.
The 1HD T requires new mounts, both sides, the input shaft on the gearbox and bell housing would have to be changed.
The exhaust ,starter and clutch slave are on opposite sides from memory.
I forget which sides the coolant outlets are on for the 2H ,but if they are the same for the 3F ,then you can use the old radiator with some different hoses. The 1HZ radiator has a slightly bigger volume.
New radiator shroud as the fan will be moved.
Getting the old tacho to work is another chore.

Thanks that is the exact info I was looking for. So at the end of the day either wait a year or two for the hzj75 with the 1hz motor or just stick with the 2f and 12ht.
What surprising is that as far as I know they still make the 1hz and still putting them in vehicles.

Long time to wait if you want an engine upgrade.

Yes the 1HZ is still in production and will probably be for another decade or maybe longer. Countries like those in Africa have no taste for computers and sensors stuck all over engines.
Its also the easiest engine to work on while its in the engine bay that I have ever seen although it hardly ever needs it.
Variations of the B and F engines are still in production
