I bought a 78 FJ40 with original 2F engine with original electronic ignition. Prior to this rig with electronic ignition, I have only been used to distributors with point system. In tuning up the engine with new plugs, etc., I removed the distributor cap, noticed the coils inside, and removed them to clean them up and to clean out the distributor cap. On trying to place the coils back inside, I realized that Idid not now how to regap the coils. How do I regap them and what is the setting? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks from a rookie.

Using a thickness gauge, measure the gap between the signal rotor and pickup coil projection....

air gap aprox. .008~.015... if out of spec. replace the dizzy.........

The key to setting the gap is to have one of the 6 protruding teeth of the signal generator alligned with the little metal tooth in the pickup coil (black and shaped like a box).
Then loosen the 2 screws a little ,the pickup asembly will rotate about the the little hole that is between the 2 screws. You should be able to insert the feeler gauge between the 2 alligned teeth with a slight drag. I use the Canadian dime for the gap, it works perfect.
To allign the teeth, you can rotate the the engine by hand.
Once you got the right gap ,tighten the screws and check the gap again. If it is good , you are done.
