G'day folks,

The cruiser needs some new tyres and I am wanting to increase the size but not sure of the best size. I am currently trying to decide between the following:

285/75R16

305/70R16

295/75R16

I have Commando Superduty 4x4 Shocks and King Springs (2" Suspension Lift).

I kind of prefer the idea of having the 295s as they're larger and I can get some Nittos for a decent price, but the 285s and 305s are way more abundant and considerably cheaper.

For reference, I can get 4x Nitto Terra Grapplers (295/75) @ $1484 AUD fitted

Or;

4x Firestone Destination MT/2 (285/75) @ $1336 fitted

Or;

4x Falken Wildpeak AT3W (285/75) @ $1220 fitted

Or;

Hankook Dynapro AT2 Xtreme (285/75) @ $1018 fitted

The only other options would be the cheap chinese ones at around $880 for 4.

Can anybody please help with a pros and cons list?

Many thanks!

Go 285, IMO. The 295 is only fractionally bigger but availability is much more limited. I don’t have any experience with the 305, but personally, I see no reason to go wider than the 285. I would do some research as well to ensure you won’t have any clearance issues with the 305, especially with the front suspension.

The 285/75r16 is probably the most common tire size on 100’s. If it’s not, then it’s second only to 275/70r18.

I was once told that availability is the best ability, and for tyres, I think that is good advice.

I have the option to purchase some skinnys for cheapish, $600 AUD for 4x wheels and tyres (225/95R16), do you have an opinion on them at all?

I have been trying to find pictures but it is difficult.

when I bought my 285's about 4 yrs ago, there were 100s available in socal. the 295's only had 2 avialable in the whole state. go with the 285's....

225/95r16 seems to be a predominantly Australian tire size. Doing a quick google I can find very little info on it. My general thoughts are that it too will suffer from limited availability and secondly, it will be far too narrow on a 100. I also suspect the stock wheels will be too wide for a 225.

Ona side note, if you’re willing to give up a little diameter, the 265/75r16 (32”) is a good option and ubiquitous, at least here in the US.

I just got 295's recently because i prefer the larger look (even if its minimal). Discount had them here in a day and installed the next. I know for a bit when i started researching there were a lot of places that were out of stock but by the time i was ready, it seemed most stores had them. Anyways, I'm super happy with them and i was willing to risk limited availability if something were to happen.
Also, pricing was almost the same for the KO2's between 285 vs 295, same for the KO3's. $297 vs $301.

Well, I kinda solved the limited number in my mind....2 spares. That will cover me in the back country (like ariz strip) till I get to civilization. I can than have discount tire ship to closest store.

I believe they don't even sell that tire anymore in the US. Might become super obsolete in the future.
