My local tire dealer has this size in a couple of different brands, first I have seen them. Anyone running them on a stock 100? Was thinking of spacers and 275's but these are very tempting! Thanks

Several guys are running them with wheel spacers, pinch weld mod, and LIFTED! Some also have added body lifts.

I drove a stock height LX470 with a 1" body lift with wheel spacers and 285/75r18 toyo RT and they were surprisingly really smooth with little steering effort! (Unfortunately the truck was re-geared to 4.88 so not sure how acceleration was affected but braking was normal to me).

People like @benc and @paflytyer have given this size a lot of praise and their opinions count more than mine.

Hope this helps.

That's basically a 35'' tire. you will definitely have to do as @bozncsurf said and do some moding. Specially gears if you have a 4 speed. I run a true 35x12.5/18, but I went through 3 sizes before getting here. first 285/65/18, they just were not wide enough for me. then 305/65/18, these were wider, but not tall enough. then 295/70/18 (a 34.5 x 11'' tire) this was nice, I regeared at this point. finally ended up with these true 35's when I went back to an AT tire.

Thanks DJC...I ran 285's on my 98, I am "assuming" if I run a 285 on my 04, the only difference, size wise, will be the 2 inch diameter of the wheels. I liked the width of the 285's, would prefer a wider track tho! I know 285/65 will work then I could throw on a spacer, but not sure how I will like the sidewall...decisions....decisions!

285/75R16= 33" diameter
285/75R17= 34"
285/75R18= 35"
285/75R19= 36"

See the pattern?...

Edit: Also added my current list of tires in the 285/75R18 size

Toyo MT, AT-II, RT
Nitto Ridge Grappler, Terra Grappler G2, Trail Grappler MT
Goodyear Wrangler MT/R-K, Duratrac
Cooper Discoverer A/T3
Maxxis Bighorn MT-762
Yokohama Geolander AT GO15

@hoser if I recall you used to (years ago) run a 285/75r18 toyo MT

Were you regeared at the time? And what did you think of them on a DD?

Here's a pic dug up from my collection
One reason to have the power folding mirrors :grinpimp:

Wonder if they make the Toyo extreme in that size?

@ad27326 The tires in post #8 are the "Extremes" but they are hardly extreme.

The 5sp will have no problem accelerating from a stop because even with stock 4.1 ratio, the 1st gear is lower than the 4sp with 4.88's. Can't speak for the top gear as I don't have the 5sp.

A343F vs. A750F Transmission Gears

Gotcha, can't tell from my phone! So you weren't impressed with them, I will mark them off the list....I have the 5sp, that should help.

^^ No, the ATII's are good AT tires. But when I think extreme, I think Simex Centipedes! =)

@bozncsurf Yes, I <3 the folding mirrors! The tires in the pic you posted were 35x12.5R18's and I did a fair bit of trimming and banging to reduce the rub. Yes, I was regeared and the MT's were fine as a daily driver. Have since used GY MT/R-K in the 285/75R18 and the same size in the Toyo ATII. I still have the occasional rub on the trail but I hardly notice it.

Below, 285/75R18 in Toyo ATII. You can see how the skinnier tire tucks into the fender a little better.

Are you running any spacers?

Yes, both pics have the same spacers, 1.25" front / 1" rear. If you are really averse to rubbing, I'd suggest 20mm wheel adapters or maybe 10mm spacers... or just cut the front fender.

What spacers? Hub centric front and whatever on the rear?

I presently have the ATIIs on in 285/70R17 on my LC. I like them a lot. How do they compare the to GY MT/R-K? Is your LC a weekend or daily vehicle?

@ad27326 No, my spacers are not hub centric to the wheel. I had them made up about 12 years ago, before those special hub centric spacers were invented/available.

@gungriffin My 100 is mostly a weekend vehicle, nowadays. It is difficult to compare new tires with old, worn out tires. But the MT/R-K's are fine for a daily driver too. A little more road noise. Ride quality, seems about the same.

285/75/17’s Toyo extremes here, regeared to 4.88. No spacers.

Big fan of the size. Btw, excited to see the Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac now available in 285/75R18 -- giving us a great option for winter conditions (most likely my next tire)... not sure if anyone here has already tried those in that size.
