The 285/70/17 BFG KO2's on my LC100 are nearing end of life, so looking at replacement options. I live 6 miles beyond pavement on a sandy, wash-boarded, unmaintained beach road in Baja Sur, Mexico. Except during hurricane season in Aug/Sept, its desert dry here. Tires see +/- 70% poorly maintained, pot holed pavement driving with balance being sandy unpaved driving.

I've got +/-40k miles on KO2's which have fared well in the dry harsh environment with zero flats or punctures and still have around maybe 5-7k life remaining. Will be ordering online from US so open to options vs. the premium priced BFG's. While MT tires look tougher and more aggressive, my practical, value based side is unsure how much they really offer given the minimal mud seen, so leaning towards AT tires for better gas mileage.

Thinking the KO's are of an older design and wondering if the competition has caught up and if so what should be considered, so any suggestions or cautions regarding my options are welcome. Or should I go with the status quo and bit the bullet for another set of KO's?

Thanks for sharing any constructive insights from those with more expertise.

Get an all terrain tire that’s available in Mexico- so when you ruin one, you can buy another locally.
As you know, the local Mexicans don’t have fancy trucks. Your 100 is way better than anything they drive down there- for the most part.
Just get an all terrain that fits and drives good on the pavement too - cuz there’s still plenty of pavement in Mexico also.
