Hi,
This is the alternator originally on my 88 Hj61 24 volt external reg, that i swapped out for a 27040-68030 internal reg. I didnt realize the Amperage was a good bit higher in the internal { I think its 25 vs 40? After running it for about half an hour the gage spikes up to 32 v on the dash, I thought it was just a bad regulator in the alternator , and I have another identical alternator to replace it(27040-68030), would that be just a waste of time swapping it out?
Thanks,
Snaps

As per your last thread on the same subject, have you changed the wiring on the vehicle to switch from external to internal regulation?

Hi,
No, so in order for it to work, does all the wiring in truck have to be swapped out to a thicker AWG?
Thanks

There seems to be a lack of even basic understanding of what is happening here. It is nothing to do with wire gauge. You can't add an internally regulated alternator, unplug your old voltager regulator and expect things to work.

As I said in the other post, look online for information of how to modify your wiring to go from having an external regulator to an internal regulator. If that doesn't work for you, or you don't want to try it, I recommend you just buy a proper external regulator and keep the wiring standard.
