It's time for new tires and I have decided on the Bridgestone Dueler Revo. Since the 80 is still the family hauler, I plan on keeping it stock height, stock tire size with good highway handling. I do have a second set of stock wheels, so I can always buy some dedicated offroad tires if I decide to do some hardcore terrains without waiting for the road tires to wear out.

The Revo comes in 265/75 and 275/70 sizes and both of sizes have about the same rolling diameter and width. The main difference being the price - the 265/75 is about $20 lower per tire than the 275/70.

I'm wonder if the 275/70 is really worth the $20 each ($100 for an entire set of tires)? Anyone running 265/75 sized tires and regretted it?

I had the Revo on my Toyota Tundra and mine were 265. Honestly, I dont think size would help you if you dont plan on doing much wheeling. I couldnt get my 265s to spin out in rain. They ride the rain like its brand new pavement.

I also have 245 Revo on my 2WD Tundra and I agree with you - they have great on road traction!

Yes I am running 265/75 sized tires! And Yes I do regret it! I should of went with 285/75/16.

265/75-16 and 275/70-16 are both about 31" diameter and would not require speedometer recalibration. 285/75-16 is 33" and the speedo would be off about 5% without correction.

I had the 275/70/16's and love my Revo 285/75/16's. Get the bigger tires.

I second this, see my thread from last week.

I'll have to be the odd man out - I just had a set of 285 Revos that I bought about 2 weeks ago swapped out for a set of 265's. The 285's took my highway gas mileage from 16.25mpg to 13.9mpg, and made the truck feel noticeably more sluggish accelerating and braking. About 95% of my driving is on pavement, with the remainder on dirt roads, so the 285's were just overkill... for me.

Now if there was a 255/85 Revo, I'd go for that.

I am too am considering which size Revos to go with. Were your MPG figures corrected for the change in circumference? MPG is gettting to be an issue to consider for me.

The 16.25 MPG corrected for circumference should be about 15.7 MPG. If A is getting 13.9 MPG, he is losing about 11.5% due to the heavier (54 vs 45 lbs) and wider (tire 11.5" vs 10.6")

I'm still leanging towards the 265/75-16 as these will be primarily used for highway, with some light offroad use.

Yes, I did the calcs to correct for the larger diameter tires and the corrected mpg was 13.9. The 16.25mpg was with the stock Michelins that were on it when I bought it. I just had the 265's put on there yesterday, so I haven't calc'd the mpg yet.

Two things to consider here:

1) There are 2 different load ranges in the Revo LT265's - one is load range "C", and the other is load range "E". The "E" is supposed to be the same weight capacity as the 285 "D", so that's what I got. It's a 10-ply, I think. I believe the weight of the 265 "E" tire itself is actually the same as the 285.

2) Also, with the 265's you only lose about a half-inch of ground clearance, but the tire is almost a full inch narrower.

I don't know how all that will add up as far as mpg, but I can tell you that the truck FEELS more responsive on the road with the 265's. Makes me wonder if the width or the diameter is what affects the "feel"... which is why I was hankering for a 255/85-16, but there ain't no such critter in a Revo, and this site has me convinced that the Revo is the best thing since sliced bread, so I was stuck on that.

(edited to add: Also, my FJ has a 3F-E, so it's more anemic to start with than the FZJ.)

They had a Cooper Discoverer "ST" (I think) in 255/85-16 that looked kind of interesting, but I think the Revo will perform better on pavement with the wife driving it most of the time, so that's what I wanted.
