Im going to buy a Warn M12000 24V for my ARB front bumper....

I have a s***ty old Ramsey , and I've used it, with a crane I built for the front of my cruiser, to lift all sorts of crap around the yard. even a 2f into the back of a truck, and could still start the truck after doing this sort of thing for most of a day.
also used it to winch myself AND a duramax quadcab dually out of a mudbog in one go without a snatch block.

had it for about ten years, and if something ever breaks on it, I'll look for another one.

I also have a warn 8274 which by comparison, is a piece of crap. guess the replacement part are easier to find tho.

dunno but I'm looking for one dead or alive....

it is amazing how much stronger winches are when they are 24V... Other than that I would say search, about everything is the same, there is a lot of good info here..

24V Warn 8274 = Brilliant!

(Can't say the same for the old 12V versions of that winch)

Why don't you just hook up the 12V one to 24V power and see what happens? I believe Crushers here on the board does exactly that with a 12V 8274...

I mean, if you're gonna replace the motor and stuff anyway, why not? :D

Can you take an old warn 12V 8274 and convert it easily - say 24 motor and 24V solinoids? Or is there more to it then this. I assume the switches and remote don't care what voltage is going through them.

Yes. Just like you've mentioned. Swap out the motor for a 24V one and change the solonoid pack and you are good to go. I think I paid about $250 for the solonoid pack, which also came with a remote, and around $300 for the motor if I remember correctly.

Im going to buy a Warn M12000 24V for my ARB front bumper....

That is what i have, and love it even after 15 years...Only had to change the wire once. Twice faster then a 12v if i recall correctly

just purchased a AISIN AS-1000 Winch, which looks quite similar to the warn 8274 .... heavy duty.....

anyone own one, what are they like?

cheers

[thread=10324]This thread[/thread] has a bit of information on that AS-1000 winch... Looks like you should ping Landpimp and ask him where his pictures are. :)
