The $500 might make a yota hard to do but it would be doable.

Easier option would be an older F-body
Seeing as though i've owned about 12 F-bodies

But the idea of getting one of our toyota sponsors to sponsor it would make it that more enticing.

The huz is especially interested...I think we d be game for this...there is certainly no shortage of lemons here!

Al, that Celica GT would be the perfect candidate. I'll donate some $ to get the project started if someone has space for the car.

Update

Race was over for us before it started. Against my recommendations my boss and his buddy who co-own the car decided to do all the testing during the track day yesterday. Big mistake. I ended up diagnosing and repairing one thing after another and the car even made it to a last minute repair shop but we had no luck. The car was a true lemon through and through and would not run properly for us. It would run perfect for a few minutes than catastrophically lose power. Loose wiring is my final diagnosis but we did not have the tools or knowledge to complete that repair at the race. The engine and drivetrain are completely solid and the car is set up to race. Due to my frustration of being the only person on our team with practical automotive knowledge you guys could join our team and we could rebadge it a Toyota. No one would really care, all the cars are crap. I need more mechanical knowledge around when problems come up. I plan on getting our 240sx fixed and making it worthy for the track for a race in Atlanta in Dec. Please join our team and we could possibly get a second car to run. Also a benefit of participating with us is that the cost of racing can be filtered. To be ready for the race this weekend it cost my boss and his friend over $4000 not including the purchase of the car and required fire suits. Anybody wanna join us? Let me know.

And another thing. The trick to buying a lemons car is to find a decent car and have the seller write a sales receipt for $500. Or find a race ready car and have the seller price the car at $500 and then sell the safety equipment in the car separately. That's what we did. Car $500. Rollcage, seat, brakes, four sets of rims, etc $1500

Mike, I am SO IN! Tell me what I need to do to sign up!!

Boss OK'd assembling a team. Johnny, you must help me repair and test car. Then who knows. Anybody have 240sx knowledge? Gotta find clips for the injector wiring harness.

Ok, I can do that. I'll develop some 240sx knowledge ASAP.

When is the next race ( deadline ) for when this car needs to be done by?

Welcome aboard Johnny! We are doing a chump car race in december in ATL. Same sort of thing as Lemons but only a one day event. I'm ordering new piggy back clips for the injector harness to see if that improves our power. I also have to drop the fuel tank for a clean out and minor repair and a new fuel pump install. I might get a new tank if the price is right. Anybody else want in on the fun?

I'd love to add a toyota car to the team but it seams they are all worth too much money. Damn reliable machines.

I'm a possible... send me the info... also PM me what the car is doing I have quite a large group of nissan friends back home.

I'm actually impressed you found a mid 90s 240 for that money. While I grew up racing muscle cars I had some friends in the asian car community and that was the only one that I actually gave a little respect too (not counting the uber expensive Supras , 300Zx's... etc...)

What year was it exactly??? All 90's models had the same I4 engine something like 160Bhp and 160fl/lbs. The 95+ models looked a lot better and were about 100-150lbs lighter and more nimble on the track.

If I can contact some old friends I may be able to get ahold of the JDM lsd or turbo manifold.... but I imagine the "salary" cap has already been hit on the project.

the engine must remain stock in appearance so the judges don't suspect performance mods. The rest of the stuff can be considered safety equipment. We got the car for 500 with 1500 worth of safety equipment installed.
