Strange, that was my impression as well.

Not idling but as it moves through the RPM range. They're still both crazy smooth. It could also be because I'm comparing an 07 4Runner to an 04 cruiser with less sound deadening. Perhaps I'm equating more noise with less smooth operation.

They have entirely different exhaust notes.

I drove an 06 and a 99 back-to-back and it was readily apparent, but not unpleasant. I thought that perhaps the 06 needed a little maintenance--now I know.

The 2uz is actually a wana bee American v8. It maybe more refined and easier to baby but it lacks character. And I don't find the power adequate

I disagree. It was designed for two luxury vehicles. The pinnacle of engineering from Toyota and Lexus. 80% of the torque is available at 1800rpm and easily moves the two extremely heavy trucks.

You're right it's not American in that you can't hear it from a block away and the fact that it's not in some POS car.

It clearly works having been in production for 15 years and counting.

The Lexus brand was introduced for America. They had to adopt American taste in order to make the brand run that's why u see these Toyota v8s otherwise Japanese imagination was stuck to inline 6. Apart from century v12 but then that's for Japan market only.

I find it quite funny when I punch the throttle hard and listen to that funny v8 sound of 2uz screaming Grrrrrr I'm a v8 ... I'm a v8 haha
