22RE - intermittent start with low voltage at solenoid

Buddy just got away from work now, it'll likely be late before I've got anything to report. I'll go back and check the heavy lead to the starter again, the 0.6 ohm was purely from memory, so it may well have been 0.06 or 0.006....

It's the contact in the solenoid. Just as I'm sure was expected. The poor continuity on the lead from the battery turned out to be the limit of the multimeter I have (when you touch the probes together, it reads 0.6 ohms of resistance )

So now we just need to read a bit more and see what the part number for the contact is, and figure out if we can get one through the dealer.

Thanks for all the help Ray and others, Wristy we'll follow your tips for making sure the contacts are adjusted right when installed. Bogo, thanks for the tips on removing, I picked up some extensions before heading over, and I don't think we could have got it out without them.

 to all

I've seen that multiple times. Does it have a zero function?

First one I removed without the long extensions and it was a bitch!!! Then somebody here on MUD mentioned using long extensions. What a difference. Made it nearly easy. Only hassle was getting the nut started when putting the starter back on.

Given how old the vehicle is and if you have the $$$, I'd seriously consider changing the battery cables. I'd replace them with 2AWG or 0AWG cables. It will then start with a much deader battery.

I'll have to check and see about a zero function, I wonder if I still have the instruction booklet around somewhere? It's a cheapo, so if not, no big deal.

We'll have to see about the cables, they would be real simple ones to do (although there is already a direct ground cable from the battery to the block, maybe it's been done sometime in the past). If it were my truck, I would do it for sure, but given it's not mine..... I suspect if the starting issue is gone, that'll be as far as we go.

Local dealer had the contact kit in stock, so we may get it back together tonight.....

Contact replaced, starter in, and it starts like a champ. I mentioned replacing the ground cables and starter lead, but I doubt anything will come of it.
