I had a lead down test done and its leaking on 2 pistons and ticking. So looks like I need to start on who/where to go for a good engine and who does good work. And price.
its an 82 Toyota 4wd 22r motor, I guess I could now look into a 22re which is the upside to this.
And possible a 20r head on a 22r motor (just a wild idea I've seen option)
Options???

Thanks!!
Kyle

No affiliation or use myself --- but my friend has used him twice, on two separate toyota pick ups and seemed to work out pretty well from what i've seen and knowing him if there were any issues he would Never shut up about them... good luck with your search

Who has remanufactured engines?

I've done the top end on a 22re 3x, pretty easy job. I can't imagine the bottom end is real tough, especially on a straight axle.

At one time, there was a machine shop in Mesa that specialized in Toyota I 4s. I don't remember the name but if they're still around, they would trade you for a rebuilt for a price.

LC Engineering is in Lake Havasu. I know they're not "local" but they're one of those famous rebuilders in the Toyota world. Camelback Toyota may be able to help, too. It would be a lot of work to do EFI but if you've already got the engine out... TONS of info online about it, here on MUD and Pirate4x4 and I would also check Marlin crawler's forum plus Tacoma Territory. Donor engine and harness and ECU plus fuel lines and fuel pump. Let us know how you end up!

Another place for good old tech is yotatech. Those guys have done everything imaginable to old Toyotas.

IIRC, Marlin does several versions of the 22R. If you just google it you can find lots of resources, especially if you change out the target: 22R reman, arizona 22R builder, toyota overhauler, etc. I thought O'Rieley's and most of the parts stores had them rebuilt also. John

I have a good used 22R Long block but it's going to be about 3 weeks before I know for sure if it's available. I'm working on a '83 Hilux that had an engine issue that appears to have been minor/repairable so not planning on swapping in the spare. BUT, I want to make sure the post assembly compression check is good before I let it go. What is your time table?

Its open but am thinking new if im doing this just because im not selling it will drive it about forever :) keep me posted tho
