How feasible would it be to put a 203/205 doubler in an FJ40? My current drivetrain is a 350/SM465/TLC t-case. The Cruiser is sprung-over with the rear springs flipped to extend the wheelbase.

I will be installing a centered rear soon, and I had planned on using a 465/205 combo. I have a friend with a 465/203/205 set-up that he needs to sell, so I thought about it buying it. I think it would be too long for my current wheelbase though.

Has anyone done the 465/203/205 in an FJ40 without pushing the rear axle way back?

R.K.

The 203/205 combo will add about 7"-8" to your drivetrain. It all depends on how long your existing rear drive shaft is. Moving your rear axle back is not a bad thing unless you don't like the look of a streched wheelbase 40.

it could work.. im running a 25" driveshaft.. in mine 700r4/dana300 Works great - My Buildup has all the info in it

FJ60 springs Flipped in the rear gave me about 5" of extra Length..

I got my FJ40 with that setup - 350-sm465-203-205. What I did was I installed my 350 as far front as I could, actually gettin rid of the stock fan (I have 2 electric puller fans.. very thin ones). I also had to move my rear axle back a little. Y have extended spring packs ('bout 5-6 inches), got a shackle reversal in front and move the front axle as far front as the frame allowed me, and also moved back the rear axle as far back as the frame allowed me (w/ the extended spring packs). I'm not really sure how far back my rear axle sit now, but I'm around 100+ inch wheelbase now. The rear shaft is kinda short but with the rear goofy leaf and about 40 inch travel I only did need a limiting strap. I'm plannin on puttin a CV back there soon.

DO IT!! You will love the "stupid low". I have a 350/700R4/NP203/Toy case and I only had to cut 1" off my read drive shaft. I flipped the rear spring hanger and flipped my springs. Good for about 7" of extension. I'm at 102" of wheelbase. Here is a link to my build:

HTH,

It should work fine. I currently run a 465/Toybox/4spd case set up with a 14 bolt rear. It's a SOA setup with flipped 2" lift springs. The driveshaft is a CV because it is short, steep and a compound angle. I am assuming that you are running 1 ton rears. Let me know if you pass on the 203/205 setup. I may be interested if it's still for sale. Than you could buy my Toybox/4 speed case and everything would be perfect.

Chuck
