Hello, let me introduce myself. I'm Nando, from Chile and I'd like to post my experience in building up my rig.
I started with an original TLC FJ40, and decided to swap in a GM V8 350 with an Edelbrock carb, SM465 mated to a NP205 and Dana60 front (full spool) and GM14 rear (Gov lock). I went with a 2" Ram assist and a modified saginaw steering box.
It has a set of Maxxis Mudzillas 37 x 13.5 R15 on homemade beadlocked rims. (15 x 10)
After initial runs I decided to get rid of the carb and install an original chevy TBI with a modified chip on it ( actually I have 2 chips now....a std one with only the sensors we kept on and a custom modified one).
Also (..and this was the original idea.......) we installed a doubler- SM465-NP203-NP205.
As for now It's again being modified, and we are designin a 4 link configuration (coil or quarter elliptic), so there's still more to come.
Most of this mod was made out of recicled parts or custom made, since there's not much availability of aftermarket here in Chile.
I'll post some of the pics of this mod (sorry if they are not in order, but I have a whole bunch of pics and not necesarily in order......)
Let's see what you guys think of it.....

Is that street legal? :D

Nice rig.....:grinpimp:

Thanks, it will be mostly a trailer rig, not gonna see much street drivin'
Although, it is street legal anyway. :D
As far as Toyota parts, I'm kinda nostalgic about it. I'll probably start a new project, all toyota parts (..or mostly). I have another stock cruiser to start with...that needs a LOT of work.

Nice

I run a 465/205. I wanted to do the doubler, but I could not find a 465 to 203 adapter. They are rare around here. I do not think that was a very popular combo for chevy. Is there a company making the adapters?

I running the same axles you are. First chance you get, knock off them rear drums and put on discs. It's not that expensive and they are a good bit lighter.
I've just never had good luck with drum brakes.

Looks sweet, and flexes up good too. You may have said, but what gears are you running the axles. It doesn't matter because you have plenty of gear with the doubler.

I like the traction bar. I need to get mine built, traditional ladder bar, but I like the look of that one. And from the pics, it does not bind or limit articulation.

Thanks, I'm pretty sure there is somebody making the adapters, but since I'm a long way down..... all the adapters were custom made.
I'm running 4.56 gears and have a final reduction close to 118:1:bounce:
As for the brakes, it's one the future upgrades, but it's hard to find some parts over here, I may have to import them ($$$$$)

There's some more pics on my page

hey nando. great first thread for a newbie. i like the rig. do you have a club you wheel with down there? where do you go wheeling; i doubt there are ohv parks in chile, right?!

Hi, thanks. Love your 45 too. You don't see many FJ45's over here, although there's a couple of really nice lookin rigs.
I have a club that I wheel with, it's called Guarangos 4x4 (pretty much a bunch of friends that we go wheeling as often as we could. - There's a couple fj40's too, and one with a home made doubler, developed here, and stock 2F, transmission and axles!! - ).
Down here in Chile we have a lot of difefrent terrains to wheel. Up north we have the Atacama Desert, actually the dryest in the world, and pretty big too, so if you like sand and dunes, you can go there (too far for me). Down south is mostly mud, rocks and snow in the winter time, and there's a whole bunch of roads down the coastline or up in the Andes Mountains that are abandoned (They used them in wood extraction some time ago)
And no, we don't have any ohv parks here, is pretty much open roads and thread lightly and preserve the environment conciousness. Let' see if I can post a couple of trail pics.

After a while and a lot of time and patience, my fj40 has seen the light again. I just repainted it, a complete makeover and I'm pretty happy with the results. I'd like to share with you the new Cheto Cruiser....
Now it's time for a new roll cage, new electrical system and other goodies....
